North Stand Expansion

giphy.gif[img]

TBF I have learnt a lot today. Interesting reading.
Not at all. @Coatigan a good poster who add lots to this thread, his knowledge of Overall Construction exceeds mine - i'm quite insular ourside my trades, and i find it interesting too.

NSL2 safe standing is also in the PA as you correctly pointed out. I’m more inclined to think the club will follow what the’ve done with SSL1 and make NSL1 safe standing in the future, whilst retaining NSL2 as a seating tier including hospitality seating and ambulant seating. Having x amount of safe standing seats, sorry I don’t know the exact figure, of City fans standing behind each goal on SSL1 and NSL1 would be a positive move in my opinion. Given time both L1 ends could become vocal along with NSL2.

Following the season ticket price hikes I'm intrigued to know how they plan on pricing this as that's key to making it a success. If the don't incentives people to move there as part of a home end then it will fail.

I don't know how many more season tickets they will offer considering they are happy to maximise individual ticket sales for profit, but ideally they get it full of season ticket holders at a decent price and then charge more for matchdah tickets elsewhere instead.

Trying to stay positive, but whilst the overall season ticket costs aren't high compared to our rivals, another hike makes me lose faith they're that bothered about this expansion becoming a home end. I'm not naive, I recognise its about generating revenue but I would still hope the club do recognise they can rinse the rich/JCLs and offset things for the loyal fans.

The stand would have been better as a copy of the South Stand if this happened.

What’s the point of an expanded 2nd tier if it’s just normal seating?

Atmosphere is created all around the stadium, having it at one end of the stadium will not do that.

What we see on the pitch and the number and loudness of the opposition fans also has a major effect.

And I can guarantee one bad tackle or controversial point in a match will 100% cause atmosphere from every section of the stadium.
While I agree that the BEST atmosphere occurs when the whole stadium gets going, 90% of the time it’s the “singing sections” doing the heavy lifting, often on their own.

It’s is fine to believe that a controversy or strong tackle might get people going but what about the other 89 minutes?

It simply makes sense that the new North Stand incorporate the best possible set up for a singing section, otherwise it is a singular, unique, once in an lifetime opportunity missed.

And, leave the away fans where they are. The police have it down, we can open different tiers for different fan bases.

Lastly, if you are going to put hospitality in the North Stand, rather than the South Stand, don’t locate them in an area that effectively undermines the whole point of having a North Stand Singing Section for home team atmosphere. The hotel hospitality packages will create a need for seats at that end, but just tuck them
In on the corners, by the East Stand or the CB Stand.

The way it is now, with tourists and away day fans in all the undesirable front row seats, it just looks bad when the cameraman starts walking around the pitch doing “roving reporter” shots. Even at the United game, there were people wearing City shirts and a fucking half and half scarf…AT THE FUCKING DERBY!!

City really need to get this right or they’ll regret it. And, while I understand the desire for increased revenues, there is another singular opportunity to create a better taste in fan’s mouths by reining in prices in the North Stand Singing Section, but they’re currently going in the other direction.

Here’s hoping this doesn’t get fucked up!

Have to disagree.

While it might be heretical to say, we don’t have that large of a singing section as it is and it’s already split in two.

We like to attack the North Stand in the second half and it just makes sense that THAT STAND should be our Kop/Stretford End/Yellow Wall or whatever.

Much as we might not like it, these are iconic footballing stands known the world over. What are City’s fans/stands/stadium known for???

At the very least, the middle 2/3 of the North Stand should be designated a safe standing/singing section. Push any hospitality to the side, so they get the atmosphere, rather than spoil it!

I don’t really see the point in doing that. If you put safe standing into NSL1 right now no one would stand up. Therefore you would have to relocate the family stand to somewhere else - in order to have that home end behind the goal.

NSL2 is the perfect opportunity to create that home end. We wouldn’t have to move as many people and it’s a large steep stand under the roof, pefect for creating noise. Having only standing in level 1 and then a huge home end above it with no standing would be rubbish - we may as well have built 3 tiers and copied the south stand.

I know you think similar :)

I'm not sure what your role is but i'm guessing that your comments come from a more high level view of construction whereas mine is more specialised to specific trades? If you are genuinely interested as an example Part F states whole building ventilation for offices needs to meet a standard of 10 litres of fresh air per person per second, or one litre per second per square metre – whichever is highest.

We are really derailing though.

Not to get bogged down in this, the 'whichever is highest' is quite important in that, and there is only one category where the person exceeds the sq.m. Which would then make it more onerous rather than less.

Not that I want to debate what you are saying in any way really, I get when you mention something you are either simplifying it down for ease here, or holding cards to your chest a bit, so I just presume things get lost in that. And there is usually much more to it anyway by default.

My only point was, the occupancy capacity (which is not a variable, as it deals with fire life and safety) of that bar is the same as the others around it, and if at some point the club decided to do away with a hospitality offering, they could without physicaly changing anything, and it would all be one concourse. Similarly, if they decided to flip it and offer that whole level Except the purple bar as hospitality, and made that a 'pleb island' bar for the average man, they could. That's not pretending or arguing that it isn't hospitality btw, just that, for the long term, it is quite flexible. Which we have both agreed on.

I totally disagree. I think NSL1 will remain seated and a significant part of NSL2 will be rail seating. That will be the incentive for people to move. There’s no point in building this new stand - in the configuration they have unless you do this. The club will hopefully use the South Stand for day trippers and will want our core vocal support in the North Stand. Our owners are not stupid - improving the stadium atmosphere is actually key to selling expensive corporate/hospitality packages.
