We used to slaughter the rags at Edgerton Park.
Denton was,is and always will be CITY!!

Back in school at Audenshaw High in the 90's, most supported United but the majority of match goers were blues. I think City rule the roost in Denton by around at least 60:40. Ever since I've gone watching City, most blues from our local boozer have been regulars at the match, compared to the arm chair supporting reds. My mate has always been jealous of us, as he has no one to go with watching United apart from the odd lad here and there. We have always had a strong contingent of about 10 of us who go the games.

Anyway I agree with the OP . After the Stoke and Arsenal defeats, I have been able to take defeat on the chin and know we can bounce back. Even if we don't win the league, I'll be content with a Champions League qualification and maybe a FA Cup win and further progress in the Champions League. I can only see us as a club getting stronger and stronger. The only game what really cheesed me off was the CSKA game away, strolling 2-0 and just threw it away.

I have always took defeat bad and it would certainly ruin my weekend but having kids and having more things to worry about has changed my perspective on things.

I think the difference is that it felt like the norm when we lost say under pearce and keegan etc, but nowerdays, since we have a much stronger more capable team... loosing a game hurts quite badly, especially in the league!

From my point of view I think rather than caring less, I think it's the fact that we have more faith in this team.

Both league titles we have won we have had our ups and downs, our defeats and lows, But we came through it and put a run together which meant we won the league.

I guess what am trying to say is as fans we are starting to look at the bigger picture rather than one defeat be that against Stoke or Arsenal, We know that we don't lose many games and certainly not many in a row so a defeat here and there happens, that's football.

Almost all of my mates (only 3 reds) support City and I'm from Denton. Read a really interesting article posted on City Watch just before Xmas that stated that Denton has the most City fans per town in Manchester with 3% of blues (globally) being from Denton/Audenshaw, which correlates with it being one of the poorest areas in Manchester. This article was posted after the furore of the empty seats caused the rags to masturbate themselves into combustion.

I think the crux of the article was that the more affluent football fans are Rags, whereas the more impecunious were City fans.

I'm not as bothered when we lose these days. Before we won the league I remember being in a foul mood when we lost to Arsenal away. I've been going since around 1990 so I'm city through and through, but I'm getting over losses much quicker these days which I guess is better for my health and makes me wonder how 'over the top' my support was previously. No word of a lie, when Owen scored that winner at the Swamp on 97 mins I screamed FUCK OFF at the TV in front of my wife's 80 yr old grandad (which I still feel terrible about) and had to lie down in a darkened room for a long time. Same when we lost 5-0 at the swamp - I felt physically sick.

Football will never be the same for me after Aguero's goal, that was the absolute pinnacle and since we won it I'm not as bothered about defeats. If we lose at the swamp in April I'll probably be a bit upset but not in the same way as before. I'm sure this is a good thing, just wondering whether anyone else feels the same about this?

sort of, it still grates but since that day I am a lot more chilled.

I get more annoyed than ever. These days any loss can damage our season.

I took the defeat against Arsenal badly and havent watched Sky Sports News or anything all week after.

I'm never really happy. I expect us to win 90% of the time so when we win im not elated as i expect to win.

So all in all i get no satisfaction at all really from supporting City! haha!

I wrote this thread in April 2013,after we lost the PL to the Rags :

The ramblings of an old fart and his beloved Man City.
Postby oakiecokie » Tue Apr 23, 2013 8:37 am

May 13th 2012 a date that all Blues will never forget. After all the pain and hurt of 44 years gone in those fabulous last five minutes, albeit still a heart racing, heart pumping time, until you know who scored that wonderful goal.
After watching that lot from OT last night and seeing the euphoria from the other side of town, didn`t hurt as much as I thought it might.
I think deep down we all realised that the defeat by Spurs wasn`t the sole game that lost us the league, but some moments of pure bad luck by us over the season and at times some incredible good luck by that lot.
Having been at first a fan for five years, from the tender age of 8 and then travelling with Glyn Pardoe (Citys then centre forward),his Mum,Nan and girlfriend Pat,who later on became Mrs Pardoe,to home games as a then 13/14 year old was something you could only dream of as a kid.
From 1966 onwards every home game was never missed for donkeys years and the amount of miles travelling to away games, including hitch-hiking to some wonderful places,Southport,Bilbao and then Vienna became the norm.
I`ve never actually counted the number of games I`ve seen the lads play but I guess its somewhere between 1200 to 1500,over this 44 year period.
The hurt of seeing us plummet to the third tier of Englist football has been the worst period in most Blues fans lives.
Then hope arrived in the form of the then Thai billionaire Thaksin S.,whose tenure was long enough for our beloved new Owner to finally give us hope and belief, that one day we could join the elite.
The joy of beating Stoke in the FA Cup Final, finally showed the footballing world that City had arrived and yours truly became a smug bastard (and proud of it) in front of his Rag friends.
And finally back from whence I started,13th May 2012 !
Last night was one that didn`t hurt HONESTLY.Disappointed definately, but no, I can face those TV plastics in the knowledge that we aint going away and in 12 months time I honestly believe that Trophy will be back at its rightful home,Easlands.
The old adage "DON`T LET THE BASATARDS GRIND YOU DOWN" springs to mind,so Blue Boys and Girls, laugh with them when they take the piss, but warn them "these noisy neighbours ain`t going away for decades"
Amen.

I thought I’d care less after we won it the first time but it’s the other way round for me. From 98ish to about 2010 I could more or less disassociate City’s results from my own mood, largely because I expected failure and I would have gone mad otherwise. Now, however, that we have a chance to win it’s all the more painful when we don’t. I’m not just terrified that we’ll go back to where we once were but that we might just do an Arsenal or Liverpool and fail to win the league for a long spell.

Denton has been a stronghold for CITY for as long as most can remember.

For many years the Reserves played their games at Hatters Park on Stockport Road (opp the old Police station) but support of City pre dated that period. My late Father,John Hulme who formed Dentons first City Supporters Club and ran coaches to away games in the 1940s,told of his Fathers generation all being Blues.

To get into Denton City team,Harold 'chippy' Greenhalgh wanted to see your season ticket or stubs....a completely rag free team. There were some real die hard blue families from Denton ,Redmans,Rossingtons,Mcilvenays,Gibbons,Lockwoods,Hulmes,Greenhalgh.

Long may it continue

Denton is one of the poorest areas of Manchester? I'm from Denton and I wouldn't agree with that from what I know about the area.

I said that day that I could die a happy man. I still get pissed off when we lose but I agree, I feel like it's not the end of the world if we don't win the title. I have a calmer more balance view on the situation. The comeback we made gives me confidence that it is never over until the final whistle. Also I wonder how it's remotely possible to replicate the sheer joy that was experienced that day. Last year was brilliant but came nowhere near 2012 on an emotional level.

I wouldn't say I'm less bothered since the title win in 2012, but I'm certainly more rational now about defeats.

The sheer relief at finally winning the league (something I thought would never happen in my lifetime prior to 2008), and the fact that we did it in a way that will never be surpassed (to snatch it from your fiercest rivals, when they were already celebrating) left me at ease with the footballing gods. I'll accept any shit you throw our way after that, I thought.

Defeats still hurt of course (more so because of the bullshit on the forum I invariably have to deal with after a loss), but I'm a lot calmer now when we lose. I only sulk for a few hours rather than a few days. Fatherhood is a big part of that; as long as my kids are healthy and well then that's all that really matters. Football is only a game, after all, and it's futile/irrational to get too worked up about things you have no control over.

Having said that, I'll be fucking fuming if we get knocked out of the cup tomorrow. More so because I'm taking the kids (my daughter's first game, incidentally), and they'll invariably blame me if we lose.
