Nottingham Forest (A) | PL | Post Match Thread

Incredulous as it sounds, I’m starting to think that Haaland just isn’t working for us anymore. Slowly, but surely opposition CB’s have figured him out and we are stuck playing a certain way because of him. The days of him powering through on goal seem distant. He’s become a statue and can hardly move for the lack of space around him. Snuffle out Haaland and you’ve killed City’s goal threat. Crazy thinking I know but what is the solution ?
We had other players who did contribute as well as Haaland but they are either past their peak or not in consistent form themselves

I'm not in the 'Pep out' crowd, and agree with what you say, but losing half our games - and not having had 2 consecutive away wins since August (as I was reminded by the radio commentary today) , I think the fact the fact there hasn't been any serious talk of Pep losing his job probably counts as having been given leeway, doesn't it?

It's not exactly a 'blip', is it?
Its not a blip no but there is still the distinct possibility that we’ll finish 3rd which is hardly a disaster in a transitional season.

There hasn’t been any serious talk of Pep losing his job because to suggest that one of the best managers ever should be fired when we’re still in the top 4 and in the FA cup QF would be beyond the pale even for some of the moronic journalists and pundits in our sports media

Respectfully I've been in his corner more than most all year and have purposely avoided criticism and as time has gone of late and points lost: his legacy and my respect for all he's done for this club have been the only elements keeping me quiet. After today I'm ready to consider the possibility its time to rebuild at the coach spot as well. Pep's simply not got control of this team and is not morphing tactics to counterbalance deficiencies. His stubbornness: once his ace in the hole is now his Achilles heel.

If we have an absolute firesale in summer and the rot and rust that has set in is chiseled out and sanded off making way for a hungry squad willing to be molded.... maybe. Pep proved alot wrong by molding this whole club to his specs but he made an error in not starting the revamp 2 seasons ago and complacency turned into having a team full of players that simply arent who they were 5 years ago and no longer have the extra gear nor the legs to flip thevseitch and make things happen. I also think we mortgaged alot of other positions of need by buying all in on Haaland who is great on his day but has undeniable weaknesses in his game that are oft and readily dialed in on by halfway decent teams where he wilts and disappears.

This last era has been wonderful. A new era needs to start. That Pep is only going to be here 2 more at very most maybe it's time to ask if this is going to be in our best interest 3+ seasons down the track.

Law of averages - how many times do we have a player booked? How many times do we go down to 10 men?
They did wind up Rodri to the point of getting sent off a few seasons back and it made our task more difficult than it should have been. Pep's thinkinh might have been not to allow that situation to happen again.

I have learned one thing above all from today’s game.
We simply must get Aina as he’s out of contract.
He’s a proper right back.
Forest have a +1 option if they dont him to sign a new deal

Forest remain hopeful of agreeing a long-term contract extension with Aina, with negotiations having gone on for several months. Although they have an option to extend his current deal until 2026, so he is still tied to the club in the short term.

If a poor season is top 4 and potentially the FA cup in a transition period then Im with Pep all the way.The rags are transitioning every year and have gone through more managers than I can count on 1 hand not too mention what they have spent to do all this. In Pep I have trust.

This possesion based,.walking, sideways football is dead.

Watching MoTD tonight and most teams are more exciting to watch than us.

We serve up the same shit evey week. We are so boring to watch nowadays.

Safe, safe, safe pointless possesion.

Either Pep evolves, or we start to look elsewhere.

I would like to see City emulate Real Madrids 4 3 3. To do that we will need a Right Back, a top class GK plus a couple of changes to the first team.

Ederson. Until we replace him we will have to put up with his mistakes.
Right Back. Any ideas guys? Kharsonov maybe.
Left back. I’d go with Gvardiol solid and reliable
Defender. Diaz. A rock at the back.
Defender. Riise. He could be immense
Def Mid. Rodri our Rolls Royce. The best player in the world
Midfielder. Nico. With a run of games he could become a DM/ Midfielder rotating with Rodri
Att Midfield. Echeverri. A free role in midfield encouraging him to attack as much as possible
Winger Oscar Bobb. More of an inside forward
Inside forward Marmouch. A roaming inside forward free role.
Striker. Haaland. He needs feeding the ball over the top of defences. With the players behind him he would score tons of goals.

EDERSON, KHARSONOV, GVARDIOL, DIAZ, RIISE, RODRI, NICO, ECHEVERRI, OSCAR BOBB, MARMOUCH, HAALAND.

At this moment in time with the right tactical setup aka Real Madrids tactics that team would have so much potential at no cost.

Foden amongst the subs until he recovers his form. Grealish sold.
But we need to have inverted fullbacks, and our wingers need to hug the touchline (2v1) with no support. That’s not gonna work.

How many saves did their keeper make? Nothing of note. Did Foden make one meaningful contribution whilst City dominated possession? Why was Marmoush on the bench when we have Bournemouth coming up.

We had a week to prepare for this game, and went to sleep in the 2nd half. Absolutely awful Pep. Not good enough. Many more performances like that, and you will be out of a job.

Tippy tappy vrs relentless low block setups has ground us to a halt . . . how many games erling has hardly touched the ball?!

Pep's City didn't play sideways football for most of his time as coach.

Had you said that an atrocious exhibition of useless sideways football I would have agreed but you are suggesting that that is the hallmark of Pep's football which is a nonsense comment.

There was no service into him. Forest defended the penalty area and we couldn't break them down. Haaland had little to do with it.

You've not mentioned who you think should replace him.
This guy is a special manager, ok, we're not having a great season compared to recent years, but to use a word a guy with a red nose has used in the past, it's just a blip. Next season we'll be flying once again. Have faith!

And yet after all is said and done Pep is going to play exactly the same in the next game, and the next, and the next, and the next.

The man will not change his style and is loyal only to his old guard. This constant hope that he will somehow have some kind of epiphany or heaven forbid, learn from previous games and magically come up with a different way to play is futile. He will buy players until his system works. Until then we get what we get. To him, his system comes first.

I don't think Haaland wilts. We just don't give him service prefering to pass out slowly from side to side then back again.
I think he just gets sick of making runs for nothing.
Why we don't go more direct is probably Pep's tactics.

I am becoming disillusioned with Pep too. Today was awful. We had a whole week to work on and focus on this match and in the 2nd half we didn't look interested. Why was Marmoush on the bench? We should be trying to integrate him into the team.

Pep's tactics and selections this season have been awful. Why hasn't O'Reilly played when for much of the season our physicality has been unacceptable.

Managers do burn out. It happened to Mourinho and Cloughie. I am not Pep out yet but I am looking at sides like Bournemouth and Brighton, and Villa and then comparing them to City, and their players commitment is on another level to City players.

And Foden. Get your act together. You are fast following Rashford.
