Nottingham Forest (H) | PL | Post-Match Thread

Pep best formation so far is
3-1-5-1.
Pep started with the same 2nd half formation against crystal Palace. cancelo and bernado provided the width while foden and Alvarez supported hat trick hero Haaland. Gundo played a slightly deeper role as 8 but often pairing rodri in the middle. At the back , walker was more comfortable as a 3rd centre back than an inverted fullback.
Lessons::
1.Halaand needs to play closer to gundo or alvarez rather than be Isolated upfront like in the west ham match.
2.Walker as an inverted full back should never be
3.Gundo is not a holding midfielder a 10 or assistant striker is best fit

Haaland makes it look so incredibly easy. Like this giant gangly year 10 just legging it on to the pitch in a year 7 PE lesson and casually knocking the ball in the net and then running off just to be a knob. The thing is, I don’t think he thinks of it in a much more complex way than that. He is just so naturally talented at finding those spaces and tapping it in that he is just, basically, having a laugh.
He plays football like I daydream about playing in my most indulgent fantasies.

Just wonderful.

Forest were a bit unlucky on the counter attack they disposed City on the edge of there own box on 3 or 4 occasions and broke well, but that was it really in terms of threat.
City were just an unstoppable object and gored Forest to bits like a herd of rampant bulls bounding down the Pamplona high street swatting aside anyone foolish enough to get in their way. - And all done without Kevin De Bruyne starting!
Foden, Bernardo and Rodri were excellent, but Haaland and Alvarez were unbelievable.
The press will lord Haaland for his hat trick, yet, but for two good Henderson saves and a post Alvarez could have had 4.

An unbelievable performance

There will obviously be a game of football where Haaland doesn't score a goal but he has the knack of doing the easy stuff excellently. I think he loves playing football and scoring a goal even when it is a tap in on the line.

We need to make sure we keep that love of football in him. If he is having fun he will bang goals. He's seems such an easy going, well liked but confident player who has settled so quickly. His movement isn't something you appreciate until you see him live and regularly which is why he scores so often so close to goal BUT if it was easy we'd all be scoring 20+ goals in a season. He is the quintessential great goal scorer and not only a scorer of great goals. Like Shaun Goater but with added Norse god.

Really pleased for Alvarez to score two excellent goals. I was worried that his head might drop and work rate suffer if he goes a while without scoring. He seems to have such an unassuming personality (like Gundo) that it might be easy for him to get a little left behind.

Stronger tests will come for the team but it is encouraging that things feel fresh. we don't get nearly enough credit for this but the team remains hungry despite all the titles during Pep's reign.

Alvarez is looking very, very good. May turn out to be the steal of the window, really.
His movement, tenacity, link-up play, pass selection and quality, and his shooting quality were all outstanding.

That turn and shot that hit the post was something else. What a player that lad looks!
