Nottingham Forest (H) | Post Match Thread

Much improved today. Still questions as to our pace defending. Several times we looked confused at the back when they were running at us. Gundogan much better game tho he had one bad giveaway. Liked Grealish playing in the middle. Doku played much better. KDB looked good. I'm liking Ortega at the moment. He had huge one-handed save that likely would have given Forest a road back into the game. Need to keep this going against Palace.
fair comments but i feel we need one player in deep midfield with pace to run back. Nunes perhaps. Cant see Pep going with that midfield trio against any of the top teams.

Manchester City boss Pep Guardiola fears the victory over Nottingham Forest tonight may have come at a cost.

Manuel Akanji went off at half-time and Nathan Ake was forced off in the second-half with what appeared to be a hamstring issue.

"We needed it," said Guardiola of the victory. "The club and the players, everyone needed to win. But it is just one win. The problems continued with Manuel and Nathan.

"Nathan doesn’t look good. We will see tomorrow. He could not continue and we will see in three days what will happen.

"I am sad for Nathan. Manu maybe in Turin. Nathan will be longer."

Ake had five weeks out with a hamstring injury earlier this season.

What is it with us and fucking injuries???

Much better but have to cut out the stupid errors. Got away with a few tonight as Forest could have scored a few.
Haalands lack of goals, 2 in 9 now I think is a worry as a pretty poor game by him him overall. He just has not backup in the squad to be given an rest.
Oliver his usual different rules for us and our opponents performance.
Big Erl played well and worked hard..great pass to Doku as well..the goals will come for him again
Worth getting wet for to see us win again..Grealish and Bernie were great as was kev..we look better with Ruben in defence too

Manchester City boss Pep Guardiola told BBC Sport: "We won. All that matters. Today is a good day."

On Kevin de Bruyne: "He played really good. Defensively he helped us a lot. Very good. I'm really pleased. He's an incredible person. What he's done these years with us have been outstanding. When he's fit, maybe he can't play every three days, but hopefully he can help us like he has since coming from Germany.

"The reality is he played few games last season and this season. We'd love to have Manu And Nathan and two defensive midfielders. They are fantastic human beings and fantastic players.

"After what happened in the past we were not relaxed until the referee's whistle at the end."

Us too, Pep, us too!

Not the greatest control of the game ever, but Nottingham are not bums. You definitely take this in this point of time. I hoped for upgrade for Jack and KDB before game and they delivered. For Grealish it must be some curse with blocked shots, its some highly unlikely percentege even if you try;) but overally its not neccessarly a factor as treble season proofed. Just play good and goals will come, even if all a bit dodgy. Bernardo today much better for me too

Excellent overall.

Got the win we desperately needed and that we deserved. Much more fluid, passing forward quickly on occasion and 3 different goal scorers.

Sloppy at times with our passing.

Not that I’ve been saying it for years or anything but Jack Grealish in the middle fucking works. He was superb in a free role. His best game for a long time by a mile. I’m well pleased for him.

Haaland’s best game for a while too. Loved seeing him dropping back in and what a lovely ball for Doku.

Same again at weekend, please.

Home early too.

Today is a good day.

More like it. Good performance, few players stepped up their game from recent weeks, namely bernardo and gundo, and the return of kdb made the telling difference. Foden hasn't put in even half as good of a performance as that all season and that's kdb being cautious.

It's not all sunshine and roses from here mind, we were still wide open on transition and only the window can fix that. we were quite fortunate that they were really, really poor tonight, due a bit of luck though.

That starting back 4 tonight is the best we have I would say that needs to be the back 4 until January where again we'll need reinforcements to beef up the ridiculous decision to have just 6 defenders but looks as though Ake is done again and Akanji too so that idea is out te window. Dias' leadership is a welcome return.

Pleasing to score 3 and none of them be Haaland. Finally got other goal contributions, that needs to continue, we will need individuals to step up and carry us until January, if they can without us dropping any points and we reinforce big time then we can see. On to palace now. Must win that.

Another good performance by Ortega, and Pep's decision to change keeper has been fully justified.

Loads of positives from tonight, notably KDB and Doku - if we can get a bit more end product from him, he will be truly special.

Hopefully we patch them up and put a good enough 11 out again at the weekend to get 3 points at Palace.

much better but not convincing at all...

lots of mistakes, and shakey defensively at times.

Grealish adds control in the middle but doesnt have a clue what to do with it once he gets near the edge of the opponents box
Gundo was our worst player - giving the ball away numerous times.

Doku was our main danger man going forward and as always Bernardo worked so hard - needs a rest.

KDB - still think he is struggling - if given time and space he can hurt anyt team - but when pressed he is very close to giving possession away and did do at times.

Palace away will tell us a lot more about where we are as a team with some of these players coming back

That’s more like it. Great stuff.

Looked pretty full to me as well. What happened to the 4,000 unsold tickets?
