"Darlington FA Cup game away which sparked Willie Donachie's article in the MEN" I don't remember that piece -- is it anywhere online do you know?

Didsbury Dave posted a thread on it a while back. Have a search.

"THE PROBLEM IS THAT THERE IS A GROWING TIDE OF NEGATIVITY AROUND THIS CLUB. IT IS CREEPING INTO EVERY AREA - THE MEDIA, THE BOARD, SUPPORTERS AND EVEN PLAYERS. I CAN UNDERSTAND THAT CITY FANS HAVE SUFFERED MORE THAN MOST IN RECENT YEARS, BUT IT IS JUST TOO EASY TO SLAG OFF EVERYONE AND EVERYTHING.

I'M AFRAID THAT OUR SUPPORTERS ARE BEGINNING TO WALLOW IN CITY'S MISFORTUNE. THEY ARE GETTING INTO A PERMANENTLY PESSIMISTIC STATE OF MIND. BUT THERE IS SIMPLY NO EXCUSE FOR SINGLING OUT INDIVIDUALS FOR ABUSE WHEN THEY ARE ALL TRYING THEIR BEST FOR THE CLUB...IT IS EASY TO SAY THAT ALL SUPPORTERS SHOULD CRITICISE THEIR TEAM, BUT WHY SHOULD THEY? MARK MY WORDS, IF THE DOOM MERCHANTS BECOME THE MAJORITY AT CITY THEN WE ARE FINISHED."

Younger fans may be interested....

Cheers M27 - you & DD are quite a combo - Flanagan & Allen?

A small excert, I'll try and find the rest:

Wrong on both counts.

The crowd at the City games is also more negative than it used to be - there are FAR more boos and moaning than we used to get. It is not just Bluemoon and other forums - discussions between City fans outside the forums also seem to reflect a changing in attitude, albeit I agree that it is exaggerated on the forums.

If you disagree, you are either a liar or somewhat deluded.

I'm neither a liar or deluded.

You obviously weren't here during PEarce's reign( "You don't know what you're doing", "You're not fit to wear the shirt", there's a couple of songs to jog your memory)

Or what about Keegan's at the end ("What the fuck is going on?" at OLdham)

Or Royle's reign, say during that wonderful time in division 2, where we all put our arms around our shoulders and...the assistant manager commisioned a piece in the MEN about the fan's negativity.

And these are the populalr managers. We whinged non stop under Clark, Ball etc. ("We're shit and we're sick of it","What the fuck is going on", "we never win at home and we never win away", a few of the popular ditties from the time. There was a best-selling t-shirt which said "MCFC - SHIT TEAM - GREAT FANS")

You're either a new blue or a deluded one.

Fair enough Dave, fully take your point

Just think the stadium and fans should be jumping at our best season in ages

Last few games its just felt very negative for me at coms,of course not as negative as the 2nd division or under pearce but were 5th,got to a semi and (as of today) in the last 16 of the cup we shouldn't be the least bit negative in my view.

Hopefully a win tonight will get that feel good factor we had earlier in the year back

I know what you mean. I think we're pretty nervy at the moment because we can touch success but we're not playing that well and there's quite a bit of uncertainty about.

Compare the atmosphere v Chelsea at home to United at home.

People were more nervous about the result against United and it affected the atmosphere.

A few good performances and the place will be buzzing.

If we score early and we look like winning the atmosphere is buzzing. If (especially against a shit team) we conceed early and are pissing about you'll hear a massive sigh and there's a feeling of 'here we go again' and the atmosphere suffers. Then, like has been said, when we play Utd the atmosphere is a mixture of nerves and excitement so it's not as rocking as it should be but that's because we're all shitting it that they'll get one back.

Once the atmosphere is buzzing the people who will only sing if there are others around them doing start to join in and the atmosphere can be as good as at any ground in the Prem.

As for the papers i don't take notice of anythig they say. The recipie for your average news is one sentence turned into a story based on opinion sold as the truth on the foundation of the one peice of truth in the story which is the original sentence.
