Re: Samuel Eto'o [merged]

His agent is playing hardball with Barca is the way I see all this, the only downside is that its been done utilising the media to get their way, thus potentially making us look mugs if it does go pear shaped.

Still believe were in with a shout, as for Spudsmad s/he has only reported what s/he has been told, which is probably based on deal being struck with Barca, we get permission to talk to player, player agreeing terms in principle, agent then highlighting clause 34.2 of current contract, Sammy saying WTF SHOW ME THE MONEY.

And unfortunatley we will have to just wait this one out.

Re: Samuel Eto'o [merged]

I think at the end of the day no matter what has happened, how much the deal is worth, or how much Eto could potentially get if he doesn't want to sign that's his personal choice & people have to accept and respect that.

I would love him in a blue shirt but Lesley would have one big squad full of ego's to manage & come the first game at Blackburn the whole squad would have cost nearly £200 million if this and the Tevez deals go through. That is serious pressure & also Eto is renowned for being moody and disruptive.

Personally I think we are 2/3 years away from being confident of securing players of this calibre & would need champions league football as a guarantee to players we would like to recruit. We only need players at the moment who want to play for City & the goals (no pun intended) that we aspire to, not players who want just the pay packet.

The 180 comment is IMO to do with Barcelona and not us. They need to sort this loyalty payment out or he is staying, simple. I imagine we will be involved here and may even add a whack onto the transfer fee if the deal is still do able.
Nahh, i was thinking it's more to do with money. I think Eto'o wants alot more money than we are prepared to pay.

No. Some places have said he is happy with the package offered by City. It's the loyalty payment - which is a lot of money about £10m.
What loyalty payment? Why the fuck would you need a loyalty payment. How is Eto'o classed a loyal person.

He has not asked to leave. barcelona want to sell him but publicly they are making out that Eto'o is trading our wage offer against their offer.

As he has not asked to leave they owe him the loyalty payment which they are bulking at.

Re: Samuel Eto'o [merged]

what do people think the press confrence is all about? is it for him to state he is staying at barca or what cheers

Re: Samuel Eto'o [merged]

Why would he come now?

He can leave Barca for free after next year, so staying at the euro champions for 1 more year isn't going to devalue him. He will stay at Barca and pocket all the £20m+ transfer fee as a big signing on fee in his own pocket next year. He goes now Barca get £25m+ he gets 200k a week wage, he stays put 1 year and he gets the majority of the £25m transfer fee as a big signing on fee and proberly 200k a week.

So unless we up the offer by at least £10m or Barca decide to pay him £13m of the transfer fee the deal is dead.

Re: Samuel Eto'o [merged]

If its all down to the loyalty payment, I'm sure Cook and Laporta will be negotiating to make a deal on who pays it, and how much of it.

Thats probably what the 180 degree U turn is all about, thus far neither have agreed to pay it.

If i was City i'd just pay it, and flog as much dead wood at the club as possible to balance it out.

Is it a no go for Eto'o now then ?
Not been at the pc .

It never was for Everton. Sorry.

Come on Sven . Fill me in m8 .

In a nutshell its been reported our offer has been accepted, Eto'o is happy with the terms offered but Barca are playing silly buggers with the loyalty payment, a quote by his agent reads "If there is not a 180-degree turnaround then he will stay with Barcelona," Eto'o's agent Josep Maria Mesalles told ONA FM. A press conference has been called for tomorrow, 11 am spanish time.

The quote reads as the snag is at their end and unless Barcelona change their stance eto'o will see out his final year and leave on a free.

Exactly my opinion.

Never a dull moment on here is there? Basically, Eto'o wants a loyalty payment from Barca, and they don't want to pay him one. Bit of a stand off developing with Eto'o saying 'Right, I'm staying then'. Barca responding with 'Right, stay then'. All very childish, but there is big money involved in this one. Hopefully, common sense will prevail, and a compromise will be reached. City are actually the innocent bystander in this for a change.
