Man City now hot favourites to sign Eto’o!
June - 26 - 2009
Man City and Inter Milan have been strongly linked with the Barcelona striker Eto’o, especially as his club have made no secret of the fact that they want to sign David Villa from Valencia, but where is he likely to go?
An article in the Times this morning said: Manchester City moved a step closer to signing Samuel Eto’o as Barcelona began to prepare for life without the Cameroon striker by making a £38.5 million bid for David Villa, of Valencia.
Barcelona need to sell Eto’o to help to fund the move for Villa, who has confirmed that he will remain in Spain next season, with City ready to blow Inter Milan out of the water to secure the three-times African Footballer of the Year’s signature.
If Barcelona manage to conclude a deal for Villa relatively swiftly, Eto’o could be on board in time for the start of City’s pre-season tour to South Africa in the middle of next month.
City are prepared to make Eto’o the highest-paid player in the Barclays Premier League and meet Barcelona’s asking fee of about £25 million.
But for a realistic assessment of his probable destination it is usually worth looking at the bookies odds, as they don’t make the prices up unless they have a good idea of the outcome. I have just checked Skybet, and Eto’o is a very short-priced 8/15 on moving to the Eastlands this summer, while their supposed rivals for his signature, Inter Milan, are a long 12/1. Even Man Utd are shorter odds than that at just 9/1.
Do the bookies know something we don’t?
