the thing is eto seems an arsehole, we may have dodged a bullit, i keep thinking why would barca want rid, he's just won them the CL.

i'd chance it mind.

My personal belief is that Eto'o had agreed to come, almost everty "ITK" had stated this. However Barca were mucking us around with so called loyalty payments and such. The 48 hour deadline may have actually been given to Barca, rather that Eto'o. Barca now realised we are serious and are probably hopeful they can still deal with us. I think they realise no other clubs are going to give them a decent concrete offer for the player. However, if Eto'o is not answering calls etc, it shows a distinct lack of proffesionalism to both Barca and City. I just have this strange feeling that Eto'o will be lining up at Ewood Park next month.
naaa blackburn can't afford him.......

He IS an arsehole. He had no end of spats with Rijkard, sulked whenever he was substituted, called Ronaldinho all sorts of nasty names, etc. etc. Guardiola has a different style to Rijkard: at the start of last season (2008 - 2009), it was fairly clear that Eto'o would be on his bike, but he then realised that he needed to change his attitude and he went on to apply himself much more. Mind you, with Alves, Iniesta and Xavi supplying from midfield, and with Henry and Messi alongside him up front, he knew it was going to be an amazing season and that he was going to score loads of goals.

But now he's back to his old self. He's led Barcelona (and us) a merry dance, and we've probably done the right thing by pulling out of the deal.

As you say, though, most of us would probably chance it.

I know it's NOTW but,Does anyone think he'll go the scum? Or is this journalists logic following our withdrawal of interest
They have been reporting this for about a week , cant see it happening, it even said in that Spanish article their hadnt been any real conrete interest from any other club. The rags will be targeting midfielders now,

i've heard a few stories down the years about eto'os attitude being terrible. it's usually been about his team mates being unproffesional and not putting in a good shift from what i can gather tough. (cameroon version of bellamy?)

hughes actually made a big thing in january about how when he looks to sign a player its not just his talent but its very important the background and attitude of that player. surely if the attitude of eto'o was THAT bad we wouldn't have entertained signing him in the first place.

If Barca want to revivie a bid they are obviously willing to come to some compromise on the loyalty bonus. Said article states that this is the problem (the mirror article). If this is the only stumbling block on potentially signing probably the best striker in the world then we need to give our heads a wobble and just pay it. Forget all the 'we showed them' bullshit. We'll be showing them fuck all when Santa Cruz gets injured and we're stuck with playing Big Phil again all season.

Just seems completely the wrong deal to try and prove a point. If there is even a chance we can get him we should be going all out. Afterall that is what we are doing with John Terry right?
Bellamy, Bojinov, and maybe Tevez?

Maybe but not sure those players can play the lone striker role which we will play sometimes away from home.

Transfers of this profile are largely carried out in the media. I think our withdrawn offer is just another move in this public game of chess. If there are no other serious bidders then I still think that this one has legs. But Barca have to compromise on the loyalty payment issue.

i think some people are forgetting how great bellamy was for us last season.i wasn't for signing him at all, but he won me round pretty quick.

I agree, I dont think City would ever completely rule out buying one of the best strikers in the world. Watch this space, if something can be agreed between Barca and Eto'o dont be suprised to see Eto'o being unveiled with Carlitos on Tuesday. And maybe that bloke from Chelsea, whats his name?
