Would not the simplest explanation be this?

We DIDN'T offer Eto'o 250k per week, just pay parity with Robinho at 160k per week. His agent thought we'd pay the extra to Barca for his 'loyalty bonus' and so get his cash that way. It's become clear that he won't budge because in a year he can leave Barca for free and get the big amount he's after now (possibly from City if we're not paying a transfer fee). City pre-empt any potential rejection.

i tell ur what guys,i am seriously strating to question hughes pulling power so to speak,cant help thinkin if we had a high profile manager these deals would have been done and dusted now,ill be honnest im gutted to fook about eto,i know we have been seen to pull out,but if were honnest he never wanted to come here,and were gona be made to look fookin idiots again in the press,and has anyone had the thought that the chairman may get a bit pissed of missing out on these deals,and if this continues hey may have second thoughts about our big "project".

would you not get a bit pissed of if you were the owner,and the top stars kept knocking you back,i dont care what weve put on the os,we never had a fin hope of gettin him,i just think if were serious we need a high profile manager,and if we dont get a good start to the season imo,i think we will get 1 sooner rather than later

If this is true which i doubt, it could mean hes going for villa,forlan,aguero,or fabiano as far as im concerned.

Who? The only "top star" who has knocked us back under ADUG is Kaka, who made it clear the reason was Champions League football. We've cancelled the Eto'o deal. If we have a top manager it wouldn't mean we have CL football. Same problem.
