Official: City sign Enes Ünal

Just another lottery ticket. All these young signings are nothing to get excited about unless you have no life and play Football Manager 20 hours a day.

Not a fan of the EDS then? jeez

Big fan, just there has been many of these types of signings and will be many in the future, if you got excited of each and everyone with their impressive stats you would be permanently dissapointed. I prefer to let him develop at his own pace, if he's got any chance of playing in the first team for us it won't be for at least another 5 years.

That's before even taking into account a certain first team manager not giving a shit about anyone outside the 25 man submitted squad despite him being brought in on holistic reasons.

On the contrary.

Some of those very signings are just about to start figuring in the first team squad by the look of it & they are probably the first of many.

Perhaps instead of looking at the optimisim of others, you should be looking at why you & one or two others feel the need to bd such fucking wet blankets.

Why not just go & be miserable somewhere quiet, perhaps in a dark room, rather than trying to inflict it on others.

Why quote what i said and then tell me i've said something completed different underneath? Very strange.

I'm not miserable, nor am i inflicting misery on anyone else, unless not wanking profusely to another uncut diamond signing who scored 200 goals in 50 appearances at U16 level in the Turkey that no fucker has ever seen play before is now classed as miserable then call me Victor Meldrew.

Already said i will let him develop at his own pace and if he is to make it it won't be for another 5 years, and that's not me being miserable it's a fact. When was the last time we bought anyone under 22 for first team purposes? So forgive me for not getting excited at the prospect of someone who may be good enough in four years time.

In fairness, weren't we saying the exact same thing about Bruno Zuculini this time 12 months ago? And I recall similar sentiments about Ambrose in 2013 and Vlad Marin in 2012. We've certainly all been saying "the youths will start breaking through in the next 12 months" for about the last 3 years. I'm positive about the chances of a number of players in the EDS, but the simple thing is that every time we build a youth up as "about to be the next big thing", they seem to not quite make it, and arguing "yes, but this time it will be different" only carries weight when it starts to fulfil its prophesy.

The simple thing is, until we actually get a youth to break through into the team in a serious way, it will always be a legitimate stick to beat us with, and there will always be fuel to sow doubt in the minds of those who aren't by nature over-confident.

Anyone who isn't excited by Kelechi or denayer isn't a fan of football!! They are a fan of shiny new expensive toys, they should follow Chelsea or Madrid. The youth team we have now is the best gift the sheik has given us. Ambrose, maffeo, Manu Garcia, tosin, barker. All highly rated and that is just the beginning beneath them we are breaking records left right and centre!!! Patching and brahim to name but 2. If what we are doing with youth doesn't excite you I think you following the wrong team. A lot won't make it but we will make superstars and maybe one of them will be a city fan from our city.

It might be a stick for others to beat us with, but you would think that City fans who have seen some of these kids play, would be a bit more supportive.

I'm still saying it about Ambrose now btw. He is an absolutely fantastic prospect, as is Iheanacho, & Denayer & Lopes & possibly this lad for all i know, his record seems fantastic.

Zucculini looked like someone who might be good enough todo a job, & had a poor loan spell. He didn't look like Iheanacho, Ambrose etc etc though.

Bollocks.

I completely agree. Don't mistake me for someone who believes there's no talent in the academy. However, Kelechi and Denayer are two more examples of players people said would break through last year, only for them to not be called up (I know Kelechi spent most of the season with a broken leg, but Pellegrini turned down the option to put him in the squad for competitive games before that happened). While I believe that they can and should make the grade, every time one of those types of player is passed up, even for only 12 months, it sows doubt in the minds of those who have already had their fingers burned by betting on the many who have not made the grade. Besides, one only needs to look at the Pogba and de Bruyne situations to see that sometimes, even genuine world beaters are spurned by their managers for no logical reason and end up coming back to haunt the fans who were preaching for their inclusion.

Yeah, but the problem with your comment is that not all of us get to come and see these kids play. I'm stuck in Hertfordshire, for example. I can justify coming up north to watch first team games, but I just can't realistically shell out that much cash for an EDS game. That means that I am forced to rely on second hand testimony, which I would suggest is not that much different from judging a first team signing by their youtube videos, not to mention that - as the B-team plan shows - the ability for a player to tear it up at EDS level is not necessary an indicator that the manager thinks they can prosper in actual first team football. And again I would have to refer back to the Pogba and de Bruyne situation to highlight that sometimes even the ones who everyone knows are clearly good enough are not given their fair chance.

Again, I'm not trying to say there's no talent to be had in the EDS. There clearly is. I'm just offering a rationale for why some of us watch the EDS and get jaded over our previously-strong belief that a certain player will actually make it. There really needs to be a player who genuinely does break through to put to bed any fears otherwise.
