Official: City sign Enes Ünal

Yeah he's nothing to get excited about.

Ive never seen him play of course and he could be Messi on cracking for all know but only players I've heard of are worth anything

However, Kelechi and Denayer are two more examples of players people said would break through last year, only for them to not be called up (I know Kelechi spent most of the season with a broken leg, but Pellegrini turned down the option to put him in the squad for competitive games before that happened).
I know where you're coming from with the rest of your post but you picked 2 bad examples to illustrate it.

Kelechi couldn't sign a professional contract until he turned 18 in October and we have no idea when his work permit came through. When he did he was already recovering from injury (ligament or tendon damage, not a broken leg) and lasted literally 5 minutes in his first EDS match. He only played in the last few matches for the EDS to try and get some fitness.

Jason Denayer was on a 12 month long loan at Celtic (an extremely good one too) so was hardly available for call up to the 1st team.

I completely agree. Don't mistake me for someone who believes there's no talent in the academy. However, Kelechi and Denayer are two more examples of players people said would break through last year, only for them to not be called up (I know Kelechi spent most of the season with a broken leg, but Pellegrini turned down the option to put him in the squad for competitive games before that happened). While I believe that they can and should make the grade, every time one of those types of player is passed up, even for only 12 months, it sows doubt in the minds of those who have already had their fingers burned by betting on the many who have not made the grade. Besides, one only needs to look at the Pogba and de Bruyne situations to see that sometimes, even genuine world beaters are spurned by their managers for no logical reason and end up coming back to haunt the fans who were preaching for their inclusion.

Yeah, but the problem with your comment is that not all of us get to come and see these kids play. I'm stuck in Hertfordshire, for example. I can justify coming up north to watch first team games, but I just can't realistically shell out that much cash for an EDS game. That means that I am forced to rely on second hand testimony, which I would suggest is not that much different from judging a first team signing by their youtube videos, not to mention that - as the B-team plan shows - the ability for a player to tear it up at EDS level is not necessary an indicator that the manager thinks they can prosper in actual first team football. And again I would have to refer back to the Pogba and de Bruyne situation to highlight that sometimes even the ones who everyone knows are clearly good enough are not given their fair chance.

Again, I'm not trying to say there's no talent to be had in the EDS. There clearly is. I'm just offering a rationale for why some of us watch the EDS and get jaded over our previously-strong belief that a certain player will actually make it. There really needs to be a player who genuinely does break through to put to bed any fears otherwise.

That's absolutely fair enough.

None of us can guarantee that any of these kids will make it at City. But players like Denayer etc have been proving themselves away from City, so it's not really got that much to do with the EDS in those cases.

But it's one thing people having doubts & quite another reading some of the posts on here which are blatantly disregarding the chances of these kids cming though or slagging off those who do have optimism about the future. I'm not accusing you of doing that, but there are a whole bunch who are & I don't get it at all, why they choose to be so dreadfully negative in such potentially exciting times.

Not sure if posted yesterday, but:

Going to Holland would be a good move, there is no way we can have someone who has already appeared for Turkey at senior level in the EDS, his time in youth football looks complete to me, time to play mens football.

Not yet when l wrote my comment. But you couldn't figure that one out ...obviously.

I've been reading this thread since page 1 and right from the off, it said 'Official'.

Your post is on page 15.

OK, so arithmetic might not be your strong suit, but I'm sure even you can work that one out.

In fairness, it's been deemed "official" because the Turkish club announced it. However, the "official" announcement only actually announced that a deal has been agreed in principle between the two clubs - it says nothing of his own contract talks plus the medical hasn't/hadn't been done - and let's not forget that Turkish teams are pretty bad at announcing things long before they're actually complete.
