Official Manchester City vs Arsenal Matchday Thread

Just a thought, but... Hows about this for a tactic against the better of the competition? It'd be a lot of a change, and probably far too negative for a home game. But it kept Barca out, at the Nou Camp, so would almost certainly prevent anything worse than a draw vs Arsenal at home.

-------------- Shay -------------

Nedum -- Toure -- Lescott -- Zab
------------ De Jong ------------
SWP --- Stevie --- Barry --- Robbie

----------- Adebayor -------------

The idea being to keep the back 4 fairly narrow and compact so as to really squeeze the space inside the box, and have SWP and Robbie (yes, I know- but Tevez is an option too) work back and defend the flanks. Likewise, the oppo will find it hard to work an angle between the the CBs and the midfield, particurlarly with the anchor of De Jong (abley assisted by Barry) in there. Going forward, it has pace on the flanks, and both CMs have the ability to go forward and do damage, particurlarly Stevie who has a specific instruction to get in there to help out and pick up loose balls from Ade. We appear to have a genuine threat developing now from set pieces, so while it's a bit Bolton-esque, I'd take if for a win.

If it was at The Emirates, this would be a great formation, and I do tip this one to get an outing at the swamp.

I really don't see putting the right-footed Zab at left full back when you have two international left footed, left full backs in the squad.
Maybe play Tevez in place of SWP in your line up, but with a left full back thanks.

.................Given.................
Zabaleta...Toure...Lescott...Bridge
SWP.....Ireland....Barry.....Robinho
..........Adebayor...Tevez..........

Subs: Richards, Onuoha, Taylor, Petrov, de Jong, Bellamy, Weiss.

City 1 (Adebayor) Arsenal 1 (van Persie).

try this one instead http://www.goonersworld.co.uk its a decent one
am ashamed to say we do really have some wankers supporting us now , far too many tarquins and sebastians .
nailed on that adebayor will score in this game , but im hoping we bounce back after saturdays dissapointment , we look a better team then last year and the 4-3-3 looks to suit us . it really does depend though for both teams if any injuries are picked up on the international games . a tight 1-1 draw ?

Thought you got all the breaks in the games against Everton and Celtic especially, but didn't get any luck at all against Utd where you outplayed them.

If Arsenal have a weakness it's the goalkeeper and upfront. Van Persie and Eduardo are gifted players, but neither player holds the ball up like Adebayor.

Arshavin is a special player who is comparable to Kaka and Messi. City need to play De Jong and stop his runs, but that will be very difficult as Arsenal's movement is 2nd to none.
