These friendlies are utterly meaningless, but that won't prevent the latest round of negative press for the club. For all the talk of City's vaunted youth academy, none of the youngsters I saw tonight -- save perhaps Nimely -- appear to have any future at the club. Marshall in particular was brutal. If ever there were a performance that deserved a zero rating, it was his.

Yes, the penalty was a terrible call and City actually had a far better shout for a penalty themselves in the second half, but Taylor was just shocking. Pray that Given stays healthy or you can forget competing for a Champions League spot. With Taylor in goal, City would do well just to finish in the top half.

As poor as the youngsters were, the reality was that City had the four best players on the pitch in Ireland, Zabaleta, Onuoha, and Benjani and still managed to record a sixth straight disappointing result. At least this one didn't further dent the club's hopes of a top four finish -- just any stray confidence still clinging to this club.
