Old Cinemas

Re: Old Cinema's

The Savoy in Heaton Moor has now passed into this category. It seems to have shut down now, and there's a big campaign for it to re-open.

I don't see why, if people cared about it that much they'd have gone when for the last few years it's been obviously failing financially.

Few and far between now. The multiplexes took over and the bingo moved in. Our local cinema 'The Roxy' in Hollinwood got demolished in 2007.

Got cracked across the legs with his walking stick and told to get in line against the wall many times! Friday night, mid to late 80s, always pissing down, and Lurch in a bad mood.

The concorde cinema in Burnage. Saw so many films there in the 80s, off the top of my head these include, Superman movies, Supergirl, Star Wars and Star Trek movies, ET, Flash Gordon, Tootsie, Grease 1&2. It shut around 84 but opened back up for a few years around 87. Used to just stay in a rewatch the same film a few times then in the kwik save next door for some sweets. Great times. Cine City in Withington too.

That's a blast from the past, I can remember watching back to back films in there (ET included) while my mum went shopping!
