Old Maine Road photos thread

Franny's first game in charge in 1994. Not sure who we were playing but the away end looks a bit sparse.

Any time a see a picture of maine rd i zoom in and look where I used to stand.. I was in total amazement of the Kippax.
What young lads think now I don't know.
But as a kid (my 2nd game was Charlton).
As a young lad I can't explain what I I felt been on the Kippax.
It was frightening but excitement and amazement at the noise
Amazing times

Those four stands couldn’t be more different if they tried. Having some sort of coherent design clearly wasn’t a consideration at any time. In fairness, there was a long time between the design of each. It didn’t really matter though, when you were inside, I suppose. (Plenty of football to get you annoyed about instead)

Saying that, when they initially released the drawings of the new Platt Lane stand it looked like something that NASA and the Sultan of Brunei had concocted as the flagship for architecture for the next 100 years. Turns out that it was as basic, bog standard stand you could imagine. I think Jim. Ratcliffe is currently taking a similar approach.

I miss Maine Road. It's a shame Swales made a mess of it. Despite that the atmosphere was generally great. I remember when we played Stoke back in 1998 and were 0-1 down. Probably at our lowest point (York away not withstanding). It's was like at half time the whole stadium decided we'd had enough and created an atmosphere that literally carried the team to a win. For me that was always the turning point.

We made a right pig’s ear of that once country-leading stadium.
