I think Malcolm speaks with fork tongue.
He certainly is when he said the only player who cost a lot of money was Daley. Reeves was over £1 million and Robinson £750,000, both of which are more than we got for any of the players we sold - Barnes being slightly less than that, Owen £450,000 and I’m sure Watson went for less than that.I think Malcolm speaks with fork tongue.

Can remember when Andy Peebles was one of the few "celebrity fans" City had.City strikers Michael Robinson and Kevin Reeves with Genesis lead singer Phil Collins and Radio One presenter Andy Peebles before a 3-1 victory over Bristol City at Maine Road during April 1980

Bernie Clifton used to dress up as a man jockeying an ostrich. Can remember when Andy Peebles was one of the few "celebrity fans" City had.
A very good DJ, who played good music, apart from his mainstream Radio 1 show.
Apart from Curly Watts & Eddie Large, cannot remember many big showbiz names who admitted to following City.
Who was the weird bloke who came on the Maine Road pitch at half time chasing an ostrich ?
He also said it was an old squad that needed breaking up. Owen and Barnes were in their early 20s.He certainly is when he said the only player who cost a lot of money was Daley. Gutted when those 2 were sold.He also said it was an old squad that needed breaking up. Owen and Barnes were in their early 20s.
It doesn't help that Allison gets his seasons mixed up in that interview, but equally, we're all guilty of focusing solely on the Autumn of 78-79 and ignoring the calendar year, as we'd also finished the previous season going backwards with only 3 wins from the last 12 games.Years ahead of his time, mate.
Thing is, we’d had a disappointing season in 1978-79 under Book but it was far from disastrous - we had a great season in Europe for example, and we were never in danger of relegation. There were some class players in that squad, but it had grown a bit old; it just needed tinkering with, not completely repurposing.
He was utterly reckless and set us back years, aided and abetted by Swales, of course.
It speaks volumes just how many players were lining up for the 88-89 photo (within two years)
Just wonder if Daley would have scored that diving header against wba if the sun hadn't been in his eyes!? You can see how low the sun is as the north stand spectators are covering their eyesI’ve heard differing version of that story, and it’s entirely plausible of course.
Wonder if Daley would have been a far more effective player for City if he’d cost £600,000 instead.
I'm thinking ....Spot the pigeon / Match of the day....;)City strikers Michael Robinson and Kevin Reeves with Genesis lead singer Phil Collins and Radio One presenter Andy Peebles before a 3-1 victory over Bristol City at Maine Road during April 1980

Could that have been the moment to kick start his career.....diving header at Maine Road...maybe
Edit. Just realized I've your post didn't include the match footage I was on about
Oops
Roy Bailey was still there! It speaks volumes just how many players were lining up for the 88-89 photo (within two years)
None from the middle row and only McNab from the front row
