Old songs

Joe Mercer, Joe Mercer,
Is it true what people say,
That we're going to win, the Football League

Grocer Jack - Excerpt from a Teenage Opera

Old song's. Is the thread. If you're feeling sad and lonely and your heart just skips a beat you'll get your f#####g head kicked in if you come in the kippax street if you walk into the parkside you'll hear that famous roar come on utd b#####ds we're the Joey Mercer boys we're the boy's from the kippax We're Loyal and we're blue and when we meet utd We're ready for a do we'll fight with no surrender we'll fight until we drop we'll fight fight fight for the Man City until we reach the top
was on a bus early 80s to west brom midweek. think it was potters bus. anyway a few of the older lads were singing this but i thought it was "if you come in the parkside we're ready for a do"..memories obviously playing tricks on me. what tune was it to?

Your probably right the year's and alcohol fade the memory potters bus was the place I herd it to from more senior blues I'll try and identify the tune

Sung in the early sixties on the old open scoreboard end to the Tune of Just Like Eddy

When ever your sad , whenever blue
Where ever the city are plaling
in league or cup we shout like f***k
to keep the blue flag fly

With Kevna and Wag
It's in the bag
And piss on us they will nevet

I think I have mised something out of the second verse

He’s only a poor little cockney (or scouser/ geordie/ brummie)
His face is all tattered and torn
He made me feel sick
So I hit him with a brick
And now he don’t sing anymore.

Not heard this since the seventies some Glasgow blues would go in the Castle on Oldham St and sing it, the words as I recall were
We're the boys from the Kippax
We're loyal and we're true
When we play United
We're ready for a do
To the tune of no surrender
You'll hear our faithful noise
Get out you M****h bastards
We're the Kippax Billy boys
Not heard it for 40 years, takes me back.

Fair play to your knowledge and memory , the version I new was from 1986 ISH although the song started much earlier

First time posting on here, hope Billy Duffy from The Cult doesn't mind me using one of his songs as my user name (he is a blue though and have seen him wearing various City shirts in pictures over the years ) Not really one of the more 'intellectual' of old songs but remember singing 'Bananas, Bananas' whilst pissed up at several matches during late 80s/early 90s whilst waving my er.. inflatable Pterodactyl. Not sure if anyone can confirm this but convinced I heard this being chanted during The Firm film (obviously the Gary Oldman one not the Tom Cruise one) Sure it was filmed at Selhurst Park when we were playing Palace and Gary and his West Ham mates were filmed at the back of one of the stands all 'tooled up'. Remember finding it quite amusing at the time as it was so out of context with the rest of the film. As an actual actor I do quite like Oldman but a Millwall supporter and apparently a Rag too...oh dear!! (think fans of the team he was supposed to support in the film would probably agree with this too)

This one was sung very early 80’s. wasn’t around for long though.

so unplug the jukebox
And do yourself a favour
Your footballs lost its taste
So try another flavour
Man City huh huh huh huh

'Here we go, here we go, here we go' from the 80s has to be one of the most inane, pointless chants from that time. (sung by most clubs). Even though it irritated me have to admit to still belting out after about 8 pints on The Kippax during the 5:1 'Maine Road Massacre'.

I remember the football specials pulling into the stations opining the doors and jumping out just before they stopped, then all singing Manchester la la la Manchester la la la,
To the background of the police dogs barking

I thought the first line was ‘get down to Maine Road’ and third was ‘red football’s lost its taste”
