Old songs

We had a few days away at St.Annes recently and took our 3 year old grandson away with us for the 1st time.
On the 2nd night I decided to teach him his 1st City song -
We're going up,
We're going down,
City's going down with a billion in the bank,
A billion in the bank,A billion in the bank.
(Accompanied by suitable gestures for going up and going down,he absolutely loved it,he is now a Junior Blue in the making).

Going back to the late seventies, against the dippers at Maine Road. John Wark fouled someone I think, and for the rest of the game the ground echoed to the sound of 'You're just a Scottish twat - Johnny Wark, Johnny Wark..
Never stopped, thoroughly enjoyable, because he was...
Remember that but I’m sure it was around 85 playing for Ipswich

My old time favourite....

We shall not
We shall not be moved
We shall not
We shall not be moved
Just like a team
That's going to win the football league
We shall not be moved

Followed by a quick "one for Martin Luther"

Remember the Billy McNeill songs, after he left us?

Billy McNeill's a wanker,
He wears a wanker's hat,
And when he wears it back to front,
He looks a proper twat.

And then, after Villa sacked him:

Billy McNeill is signing on again,
Signing on again, signing on again,
Billy McNeill is signing on again
Signing on again,
2-3-4.

He's here, he's there,
He's every fucking where,
Tommy Booth, Tommy Booth.

At some point the second line changed to "We're not allowed to swear."

I also remember the Kippax singing this to the local constabulary:

Harry Roberts is our friend, is our friend, is our friend,
Harry Roberts is our friend,
He kills coppers.

(Which was not very nice. May have had something to with the way cops treated fans at the time, which was also not very nice.)

Also at Leeds away everyone singing to the cops that they would never catch the ripper.
Not a City song either but at half time in semi final 81 dippers away when shut up your face was on tannoy all the blues were singing it for ages.. Was funny as fuck..

Kolo Toure told the woman he was having an affair with that he was a car salesman.
At Wigan away,he came on as sub and the city fans sang,
He sells cars malord he sells cars,
He sells cars malord he sells cars,
He sells cars malord he sells cars ,
Oh lord he sells cars.
In 1971 at Chelsea away, the 1st leg of the ECWC city fans sung
I went to a Cockney and asked him his name
He didn't give an answer so I asked him again
I kicked him in the bollix and kicked him in the head
Now that cockney.....is dead.

Give me an M an A and N, a C, I, T a Y, we've got the greatest football team that money couldn't buy, we come from Maine Road Manchester and City is our name, City is our name..... gets a little outing every now and then but could be a classic if slowed down a little

There is an article on North - West Tonight later on this evening about a Cockatiel that can sing "The Addams Family".
So as this is a thread about old City songs here goes ---
Gary Neville and his brother,
Make love to one another,
They'd love to shag their Mother,
The Neville Family .

Simple one this but not many people remember it. In the mid seventies we used to sing ccciiiittttyyyy as long as we could and then start again so everyone was singing city at different times. It sounded brilliant with ten thousand blues making a racket on the Kippax.
I've always thought it could make a comeback coz it is so simple but brilliant.

That Chelsea game was on my 21st birthday! I still went, and had about 3 pints all day.

If I remember correctly, it was bedlam after the game. Got the tube at Fulham Broadway, then we took the wrong train and eventually ended back at Euston park I think . I was only 16 at the time. I hadn't a clue where we were

When he returned as villa manager we also sung:
You should have got the sack
You should have got the sack
You greedy Scottish bastard
You greedy Scottish bastard
You greedy Scottish bastard
You should have got the sack.

You're in the valley, the valley of death. Sung to away fans between the Kippax and Platt Lane.

Get to work you lazy twats. Sung to any Yorkshire club during the miners strike, and against the dippers.
