Oldham Athletic Takeover

Joey Barton & Paul Lake were talking about something like this happening last week at the Manchester Football Writers' Festival. Really, it makes sense. Oldham get access to our scouting and coaching resources, we get access to a team that plays in a more physical league. That last one is important because Joey himself said that the one thing he wasn't prepared for when he got into the first team was that the game was more physical, with players pushing, grabbing you and generally being more physically intimidating. And no matter how skillful you are, if you can't cope with that then you probably won't make it.

That in-depth article on our ownership model in the Independent posted on here last week mentioned it as well.

I don't think the timing is right personally - we're already under heavy fire from La Liga over Girona, and while UEFA might laugh off Tebas, he is still the head of Spanish football and will be working to fuck them over from his end.

We don't need the same happening domestically at the same time. Let the Girona ownership settle in before we expand again.

this should happen more and more with the big clubs using clubs oldham bury like a feeder club they are never going to challenge the big clubs anymore and get back in the premier league the towns like oldham people just are not turning out to watch them and gates of 5000 or lower is never going to push them into the better leagues even the championship is now becoming a money maker with the new tv deal to show games on clubs web sites and skysports

oldham should take any offer to become a feeder club and clubs like city pump players and money into them and oldham then can become a 2 tier club and aim for the championship as there top target and if man city want to part own them then why not the youth setup at man city is 2nd to none and our best young kids are good enough for teams like oldham and the EDS could hold its own in league 1 easy

Almost certain that city aren't involved and won't be doing any time soon...can't say how I know.

I can't say I agree - when you support a 'smaller' team you've always got to have that dream - no matter how unlikely - that your club could one day defy the odds and make it to the Premier League. Bournemouth are a good example of this.

Is this a joke?

A presume this is to give the kids more experience of club football rather than EDS?
It is to give the players experience of playing and training at high altitude, like international sides before the World Cup is held in Mexico or rugby teams play at Ellis Park in Johanessburg, something to do with oxygen levels and the air being thinner

So if City hadn't been promoted back into what is currently the Championship at the turn of the century and stayed at Div 2/League 1 level since then, you'd be perfectly fine if some rich Premier League club from the local area saw your club only as a place for some of their youngsters to gain experience, right? Of course you wouldn't and there is no reason for Oldham/Bury/'insert local team here' fans should ever have to even think of doing it either.

Should Wigan/Blackpool/Bournemouth etc. have had to survive purely to give time to Premier League before they got anywhere near the Premier League either?

I heard it was to simulate the "Stoke on a Tuesday night in February" test, but it can be done at noon, any day of the week in July.
