Agree completely.Definitely, an actual calibration would be even better using either your own equipment or paying someone (as all screens vary slightly) but an online guide at least gets you in the ballpark.
Edit: I've never known a TV that out of the box is anywhere close to optimal.
Much can be done to adjust basics but unlikely tv has had its none linear color settings for thousands of points calibrated to enable correct original colors to be reproduced on said TV no matter what its make or type.
