It's curious to me that some posters are still making comments about him being a poor defender. It's as if they're looking at the player of last season or the beginning of this. He's learnt the trade of the full back as much as he's ever going to. And he's added it to his game as a midfielder, which he has not sacrificed. He's capable of pinging balls in that no defender that I know of can do. He'll never be a perfect defender — who is? — but what was very striking about last night (and recent performances) is that when he fucked up, he hared back like a maniac and harried the man who'd taken the ball of him into either giving a hasty pass that went astray, or outright taking the ball back off him. Added to that that his general attitude both on pitch and in training is light and breezy, and he seems to be one of the most liked lads in the squad. Never sulks.
I think he's turned into a gem, and we must renew this man's contract.

He did that very well indeed last night, on the whole.

Not so much in many other games, hence the opinion. Usually, once he misjudges a challenge, he's dead.

I thought his fullback play was the best he's produced, last night.

He's absolutely brilliant.

If he was doing this at any other club we'd have folk clambering to buy him.

One thing he teaches everyone is we all need to be patient. He's a shining example in waiting for an opportunity and then backing yourself.

He does drop the odd bollock, less this season than last, and when he does he now tears off in search off the ball to make up for it. He is on his way to becoming a top top player, glad he didnt do one at the end of last season.

For someone who "should never be near the squad, never mind the team".....

He must be worth a few quid on the transfer market.
