If we legalised drugs, what would stop the drug dealers from just cutting their prices compared to the legal drug prices?
Most drug takers would surely go for the cheaper stuff.

If you wanted to buy coke, would you buy it from a legal source you knew was exactly what you wanted or buy if from some geezer you don't know at a slightly cheaper price without knowing it wasn't mixed with a bit of Persil?
The government then have to Crack down very hard on illegal sellers. Minimum 10 years (no early parole) and assets seized / sold to cover costs.

You seem to be missing the point that if it’s legal then those drug dealers are free to sell their goodies, but if there’s no profit then they’ll stop.

If you wanted to buy tobacco would you buy it from Sainsburys or the man in the run down corner shop knowing it could be laced with any old shit. Strange as it may seem to you, loads do the later.

Speaking of Persil. Over here we have Poundshops, they have been prosecuted several times to my knowledge for selling counterfeit washing powder. It was cheap and they didn't ask many questions.

That was the victim, how does that help identify the attacker?

It gives you a lead on who might have been out to kill him. Not a random attack I would imagine, just a chance it will help you build a bigger picture on why it happened. Maybe he knows nothing and will say nothing as quite often the fear of revenge will overcome the fact that someone wants him dead either way
