Our upcoming fixtures in the next month ...
25/11 Olympiacos (A) - CL
28/11 Burnley (H)
01/12 Porto (A) - CL
05/12 Fulham (H)
09/12 Marseille (H) - CL
12/12 United (A)
16/12 West Brom (H)
19/12 Southampton (A)
22/12 Arsenal (A) - QF
26/12 Newcastle (H)
28/12 Everton (A)
02/01 Chelsea (A)
So winning this one tomorrow means next two CL games become dead-rubbers and that'd ease the pressure around the league games ... even if we don't top the gorup and need another point for that in the next game, it surely makes the last one dead rubber against Marseille ... which is just before the derby.
Also need to put a run of 5 wins in the league now (including the derby) before we then face Arsenal in the QF and the Everton/Chelsea games at the end of the month.
In practice, this game is already a dead rubber. As things stand there's only one game left that matters, which is Porto at away.
We could:
Lose tomorrow, beat Porto and lose to Marseille - that would guarantee a top place finish.
If we:
Win tomorrow, lose to Porto and lose to Marseille we can finish second.
The main reason to go for this game is the bonus money for winning. Winning this game against Olympiacos will earn the club £2m, which is more than the prize money for winning the FA cup.
