Sell your best players at their peak to your competitors? Really?
We don’t buy players to sell on for a profit. That's never been our business model, if you look at how long are senior squad members have been at the club.
The glaring issue facing us is our failure around succession planning. We should be grooming the next gen players when our senior players are nano metres past their peak, so their understudy can serve an apprenticeship, like we saw with Fernandinho & Rodri.
They're totally different players, but I recall Fernandinho quietly berating Rodri for not taking out a player on the counter, forcing Fern to do it for him. These crucial on field lessons from the Master of Dark Arts, helped shape the current world player of the year.
