You must be an accomplished reader then JOTS! I read poems as a kid and as a student but not for a long time and nothing serious. I have not even heard of the poets you mention...maybe when im older ;)

Just have a go. Next time you're down the library, have a quick wander through the poetry section and pick some you like the look of. You can read some poems while the kettle boils, others are hugely difficult epics. But it's usually rewarding.

Iv not been in a library for more than 10 years, do you have to buy a membership card!?

Nope. It's also National Year of Reading, so you won't even have to show ID.

*Scratches head in confusion....not because of the nits*

So how does it work then?

Berger1985:Hello, I'd like to join the library please.
Librarian: Certainly, just fill out this form. You can even borrow my pen.
Berger1985: Here you go.
Librarian: Please hang on a minute while I add you to the system. And here's your library card.
Berger1985: Great, where's the porn at?

On the ID thing, I can't speak for all authorities, but most of the major city library services have done away with ID checks and don't ask. Surprisingly, book losses haven't increased at all.

Well, iv read two books now! I read Gang War which was about Manchester gangs and their feuds! Mentions Chris Little as well if you have heard of him. Then I read 'The Catcher In The Rye', I thought it was quite a charming book but was really disappointed with myself for missing some of the key themes (I went on wiki) and I never got that he was talking from a mental facility! Doh, maybe my brain cells will start coming back one day! I felt better for having read it actually, I dont know why, maybe when I kill Fergie they will find it in my back pocket!

Next - American Psycho
really liked catcher in the rye... good book... and i really like this thread its brilliant to share old and new books experiences with each other

Haha JOTS' library joining guide for idiots! My nearest library is a 3 minute walk away (Reddish) might bob in tomorrow! It really suprises me that loads of books arent stolen, maybe library users are the least likely to steal then!

could also be whats the use of a book after you read it... you want others to take part of the experience

Pearcey, if you want me to get you a signed copy or anything, give us a shout.
He'll be appearing at the Mining Institute here in Newcastle on 1 December. Details should be on his website.

The Roy Grace Novels are excellent.

Do you like R J Ellory?

He caught my imagination with Candlemoth and, although his other books are good, Candlemoth has to be the best book I have read in the last 12 months. My palms were actually sweating as I read the last 50 pages or so.
