Gillingham in the play-off final was brilliant, just that feeling when Dickov scored was incredible. The best game (and day) was probably beating Blackburn 4-1. I remember when we were 1-0 down and Ipswich were winning feeling such dred at the prospect of the play-offs and then cometh the hour cometh the Goat and we were back on our way. Then as the goals went in it was party time, we were heading back to were we belong and the atmosphere was brilliant. To be honest the game before hand against Birmingham was also brilliant, when Big Bob scored and then the pitch invasion at the end, my only down side was that someone nicked my programme i had left under my seat...i didnt think about it, when the fulltime whistle blew and everyone started to run on i didnt think twice. Everyone on the pitch singing and dancing, it was brilliant, it felt like nothing could stop us and we were on our way up.
Then under Keegan on the march back to the Premiership, we were incredible with Berkovic and Benarbia ripping teams apart and the Goat, Huckerby and Wanchope scored for fun. We dint just beat teams we hammered them and it was great to watch. I remember some great away trips as well, Sheff Wed 6-2 and Burnley 4-2 stand out, with Goater getting hat-tricks in both.
Then since we have been back in the Prem beating the scum has always been brilliant, the two that stand out are beating them at the swamp last season and the first time we beat them 3-1 with Anelka scoring the first and then Goater getting a brace. That was the first time id seen us beat them and the atmosphere was amazing and the smile on my face lasted for days...i must have watched that first goals were Barthez spills it out to Anelka 1000 times.
Also ive got to say the comeback against Spurs was brilliant and one of my best memories, the only game that i wasnt at out of the ones above but it was brilliant when we did it. I was in a boozer and at half time 3-0 down, down to 10 men and Anelka off injured....i said 'even if we brought Jesus Christ off the bench we wouldnt get anything out of this one' but i still stayed and watched cos im a blue and one thing we should ever do is right off our great team. Anyway it was a brilliant comeback and i remember the mate i was watching it with (a Port Vale fan) even went mental when Macken bagged, it was a great night.
Some great memories there, its great re-living them and i cant wait for the ones to come. It would be the greatest day of my life to watch City lift a trophy, lets hope i only have to wait till May.
