Online Betting

Over the counter can be restricted/refused,i was in one of the local big three, tried to put a hundred on a horse, was told "sorry we will have to phone up"the trading desk.
I pointed out to them i could put a hundred in one of their three fobt machines every five minutes and they wouldnt be phoning up,they would be bringing me cups of coffee.

Online bookies will just cut you back massively. When you place bet it will just reoffer with much lower stake. If you were tearing it up on a particular sport then you might just get cutback on that one sport leaving you free to bet big on others.

In shops though you can be just as likely to get cut back. Any big bets will likely get referred.

Bookies are basically scum. FOBTs have meant then can just set up a shop and watch the profits roll in. Having to take actual bets is a hassle they would do without.

I've had about 6 Bet365 accounts in the last 12 months. All have been limited so my maximum stake becomes about £5 so then it is a waste of time for me so I just withdraw all my money from that account and get a mate to set me up a new one. They are very good at tracing where your bets are being placed these days though so I have to bet off my phone using 3G because if I placed a bet from my computer at home my account would get limited straight away.

About 2 years ago you could build your account up to about 30K before they would limit you. Last year I got between 5/6k in a couple before it got limited but my latest account only got to £1500 before they closed it. Basically they are twats and they've become very good at working out who can take money off them on a consistent basis through looking at betting patterns.

No, so plenty of pro gamblers have accounts with everyone and try to do that. For the type of gambling I do though 365 is the best bookie to use.

Bookies use a variety of methods to restrict a punter. Either close an account down, limit stakes (I was offered 79p by Paddy Coward on a 7/1 Pricewise selection this morning) or offer a percentage of the bet at advertised price and the remainder at a reduced price. Withdraw promotions such as Best Odds Guaranteed, money back for 4/1+ winner (bet £3.65, Lads) Money back 2nd (Hills).

One of the biggest "crimes" against a bookie is consistently beating the SP, regardless of whether it wins or not.
I've had accounts with pretty much everyone and can only get a decent bet taken these days with Lads, Hills, Coral & Betvictor. The likes of Baldy (Tote), Boyles, Sky, PP, B365 and Betfair Sportsbook are pathetic.

As for never seeing a skint bookie, lots of independents have gone to the wall. The FOBT's are integral in bookies making a profit these days.

What have Betfair got to gain by limiting your bets?

They don't but they will increase commission charges if you are very successful

Betfair Exchange don't give a shit unless you start getting into Premium Charge territory. They'll happily take their commission on every bet matched (back or lay).

However their Sportsbook operation are really quick to restrict - which is piss poor when you consider how they "profit" on every single exchange bet.

I'd still take betfair over any high street bookie,or any online one.
