only 18K season tickets sold

i realise that this scenario has been played out in your wet dreams...but lets get back to reality eh?

The constant myth that United fans are gloryhunting fair weather fans doesnt hold water...for 47 of the last 55 season United have had the highest averager attendance..even the 26years with only "Minor" trophies

and morre recently when Chelsea won the PL and we didnt , not to mention the loss of major players, major sponsorships, and poor CL displays...did the fans turn away then ..no ..

so you keep dreaming about the demise of United..and your disppointment will be never ending .

-- Tue Jul 13, 2010 9:45 am --

I have only a few minutes ..I have to get back to work ...so lets answer this

"Now down to the serious business and im curious to hear a die hard reds response on this. If the green & gold campaign succeeds and you get the glazers out and the red knights come in but with not v much money just enough to get you out of debt but not invest in top players on a continual basis. Would 60k come to see united compete for a perennial top ten finish and not compete for trophies."

in one word YES...beccause history has shown this to be true.

anyway , theses pots wont wash themsleves.

Remember them getting 60K or summat for their first game in the old second division. I wouldn't get too excited about the collapse of their support just yet unfortunately.

That's because they'd just recently invented large scale football hooliganism & they all had an absolute ball bullying the fans of 'little' clubs for a year & coming straight back.

When we put 5 past them, they didn't even sell out a reduced capacity OT for the next derby because they were struggling & were scared we'd do it again.

If they hit a bad spell now & we do well their crowds will soon plummet. Won't happen just yet though, fair point.

Supporters not renewing their season tickets will only add to the debt hence making any would be investor pay even more..hmmmm..well done.

Well then the question remains why now?

The glazers have been in charge for a number of years now u won the premiership the last 3 years so why now and dont say the debt, the debt has always been there, when u were winning there was not a peep, its only now when ur being overtaken and u cant spend your way out that there is protests.

Its nice for you to sit there and believe that united fans are being high and mighty and this is for the good of the club, but as you say lets get back to reality here, the protests are because there looks like there could be a decline and without being able to spend your way out your genuinely worried.

Now while that may not affect your genuine hardcore support what it will affect is alot of those 300 million 'fans' you have across the world will stop buying the shirts, stop taking the tours and one of your main revenue streams will drop off.

I do fine it ironic that a united fan will tell us to come back to reality, believe me we are much more versed in reality than your average red, there is a few on whom the reality is slowly dawning but for the vast majority the reality is still tinted by the red mist helped along by the media

I love the way you think THAT is an example of "hard times", ooh you only finsihed 2nd/3rd in the league, Vodafone decided to dump you, you only made the first knockout round of the Champion's League. Boo fucking hoo. Your fans have no idea how to cope with real defeat, with real struggles. Success is cyclical, Liverpool spent 15 years or so being the biggest team in English football, and one of the biggest in the World. They haven't won the league title for two decades. United have been the biggest English side, and one of Europes biggest sides, for the past two decades, and now it's entirely possible the Glazers have ended that with their financial raping of the club. United fans, tens of thousands of them at the very least, are entirely unequipt to cope with this scenario, they've never experienced anything like it. Some will hang around, will 75k be their for every home game? No. You will lose fans, large numbers of fans. People won't be flying in from Ireland/Norway/wherever to watch you struggle in matches season after season and finish mid-table.

They didn't win a trophy, so the glory hunters, given the cost of a season ticket, and the possibility they won't invest in the squad and therefore won't win anything, have decided not to renew.

United did win a trophy last season...the reason that people arent renewing is simple...theya re beggining to wake up to the facts that the green and gold campaign has highlighted.

It's fucking yellow you half wit!

Most clubs have their hard core fans that will turn up rain or shine, even the rags. But with united success over the past 20 years you get people that aren't really concerned about footy just saying they are reds. Thats why you have so many non scouce dippers as they were the dominate club before hand. Unfortunatly we'll get them in time.

i don't believe only 18000, or anything close to that number, have renewed their st's at the swamp. however i do believe, in view of all the reports of people on their database who haven't been for ages receiving e-mails asking if they want to buy a season ticket and that the mythical waiting list no longer exists, that st renewals are substantially down.

on the other hand i suspect many rag fans are hedging their bets. they're expecting, and they're probably right, that tickets will be on open sale on a match by match basis. that way they can still attend most games they want to see at a reduced overall cost, not least because they won't be obliged to sign up on the cup scheme.
