Opposition Crowds Applauding City

Fair play to the Everton fans. I recall us applauding Arsenal at Maine Road when they absolutely stuffed us. (I think it was 0-4 at half time). It's how football should be, but rarely is. Worth remembering, if you hang around 50 years every dog has its day. The Everton team that won the league in 1970 was pretty special too.

The lad has about a dozen European half and half scarves pin to his ceiling. Looks smart as fuck.

Only ever bought one,it was against Dynamo Kiev,my dad was from Kiev and was a fan of theirs, raised me a blue because he hated the rags.
He's not with us now,I was nearly crying when I bought it...haha

The 68 Chanpions were regularly applauded at away grounds from November onwards. We had a terrific team & played thrilling football.

I was at Reading for the 7-0 cup replay. At the end the pa guy said
"You've been privileged to watch the finest team in the country"

The late George Heslop scored his first City goal that night & we went on to win t cup.

Yes, well said.. I remember that Arsenal performance, a great example of how the game should be played, with Thierry Henry outstanding.. The Everton title winners of 1970 were a great unit too, Kendall, Harvey and Ball so creative and quick to move the ball forwards.. And I recall the Everton side that won it in 1962-63, built around ‘The Golden Vision’, Alex Young (my Old Man said of him to me before the 1-1 draw with them that season at Maine Road, ‘You’re going to see a footballer today..watch and learn’) Plus there was the fabulous Liverpool side under Dalglish.. seemed to be everywhere on the pitch! Mind, good as they all were, those teams don’t hold a light to this City team.. the greatest football I’ve ever seen in the English league, only matched by Barca under Pep, the Dutch World Cup 74 team and the Brazilians of1970.. We’re so, so lucky to be witnessing this..

Good post.
The 74 Dutch team were coached by Rinus Mikels and there is a line from him to Cruyf to Pep. Mikels introduced total football and I remember the keeper, Jongbloed, dribbling up to the halfway line.
Does anyone here remember the Magical Magyars, the Hungary team of the fifties? (No, im far too young). They introduced the false 9, tho it is believed to have been used in eastern europe before the war. City, of course, copied it soon after with the Revie plan and Pep used Messi this way. Ive seen ignorant journos suggesting that Pep invented the false 9. Bah!
We are, we really are, fit to be compared to those great teams.

I haven't come across any non-City football fan who has in the first instance alluded to the quality of football we play and the quality of our players. It might be that I don't speak to certain fans, but it's invariably the money that gets a mention first, and I've had some people state as their opening comment after I've told them I'm a City fan -" Manchester City? I can't stand them!''

you must meet some thick ****s

8-)

I'd like to think the remaing United fans will do that at full time on Saturday.

Looking forward to 3000 empty away seats before the final whistle.
