Hello peeps.
Just another Gooner adding my pence worth.
Just thought i'd say (for those of you that think we're sitting down here allowing ourselves to get ripped off, and doing nothing about it), the main problem we're having is that when we do organise a protest. Everyone on that march has different agendas. So the point gets lost completely. Everyone starts shouting for different things, and no-one gets any of them.
I'm getting sick of it now.
Also, gotta say, it is a bit ironic that the loyal fans of the richest man in the worlds club are boycotting a game over prices. Especially when you only charge a fiver less to us (so i'm told by a couple of our away supporters).
Don't see how anyone can say the arrival of Abramovich and Mansour hasn't inflated prices/wages either. With one or the other, all they had to do was see what Arsenal would offer, then offer more. With the 2 of them, you're competing against each other. The rest of us are left hoping for affordable scraps!
Some of you are also missing the point that...... though we did used to pay some of the highest prices going for players. We earned that money through winning things. So, I don't see how it's hypocritical of some Gooners to be so bitter that you guys suddenly have unlimited funds, and an egomaniac at the helm (why else spend £1.5 billion on a football team, if not just to boost profile?). Esp' having a brand new stadium land in your lap after all the $hit we've gone through paying for ours!
Then again, you've waited a long time for your "luck" to roll in, and i'd rather see City with your ex-gooner contingent winning silver, than fu(king ManUre.
Never been to an away game. This is my first season as a season ticket holder (though i've had to go 2's up on it, can't afford £1500). Sunday will be my first time seeing City live. So, i'm just hoping for a good game.
Hope you guys that do make it down have a good day out too. Just get your beers in a local pub, and bring some whiskey in the hip flask. Em's is a rip off. Well, London in general, really. And it ain't gonna change any time soon unfortunately.
But he hasn't even got nearing to spending that has he you thick liar.

-- Sat Jan 12, 2013 1:46 pm --

Not much wrong with that, although some of you don't seem to realise our fans are protesting against our board and the direction the club has taken. 5 years ago the majority of our support would have looked down, rightly or wrongly, their nose at the ''sugardaddy'' model. Having experienced American ownership that has changed dramatically and the majority can't wait for Usmanov to take over.So yes,we are jealous.

I also think some of you over estimate how much we ''hate'' you. Abusing Adebayor and the French Lesbian is not the same as hating Manchester City.Kolo and Clichy have not been given a hard time. The majority were pleased you pipped United to the title.

One thing you are wrong about is that MCFC is or will become the model other clubs should follow. Apart from the fact there aren't enough Mansours and Abramoviches to go round, ownership by one person is wrong.Yes, benefactors like yours and Chelski's are better than the crooks at United,Arsenal and previously Liverpool, but its a sad state of affairs when the best a club can strive for is a wealthy benefactor.

Clubs who should be seen as a model are the likes of Swansea and WBA.Plural ownership, fans in the boardroom and generally well managed. Proper football clubs. The majority of German clubs are like that, and it makes the Bundesliga the most fan friendly of the major leagues.

In terms of model, it was regarding the infrastructure that our owners our putting in place, the likes of the academy and the facilities that will be built for our club. Although our owners have spent money on the first team and will continue to do so but not at the past spending level....the plan is to direct funds now into the academy so that we can produce a constant supply of youth talent.

The powers that be at our club - Soriano & Txiki are over-seeing this so that whoever is managing our club has a supply line of talented youth players that will be able to be implemented into the first team when required.

This is the "model" that I meant. IMO in years & decades to come our academy will be looked upon alongside the La Masia of Barcelona.

OK,sorry, misunderstood you first time round. I don't think its feasible for any English club to replicate La Masia. We've been trying for years and only got two genuine youth products (Wilshere,Gibbs) and one academy player (Sczesny) in our first 11. Its not just about facilities and coaching. Its about some of the hare-brained rules in this country(kids can only train x number of hours, kids have to live within certain postcodes etc). If you do better on that front then all credit to you.
If you think Arsenal's infrastructure and set up will be anything like City's then you really have not understood what City are doing.

I think if arsenal don't get champions league football they'll be doomed . They prob knew this when building the new stadium but thought ' of course we'll get champs league football for years to come , who is there that could challenge us' . Then we got taken over and now they could well be fooked . I can see why they hate us so much lol. Spurs are as bitter as arsenal and I hate them even more so but I do hope they get that fourth spot from arsenal . Arsenal will be the new Liverpool if they dont qualify, pottering around midtable.

Actually that might be the best thing that could happen. Some empty seats will also help. Our replay against Swansea still hasn't sold out (City fans will laugh that Swansea was a category C match in the league, but Arsenal have ramped the Cup game up price category). If the Yank sees the cash cow is faltering it might give him the push to sell to Usmanov and walk away with a few hundred million profit in his pocket.

Usmanov is the richest man in Russia. With his backing (you'd imagine Etihad style commercial deals) plus our existing turnover which is second only to United it would be game on. The infrastructure from training ground to academy to big stadium are already in place.

If we scrape the top 4 it will probably be more of the same, although I'm confident more and more fans will vote with their feet.

So,if this Russian gets behind the wheel and ploughs loads of money to the club it would be pretty much what is happening at our place. I wonder how many arsenal fans would be against the idea considering so far so many seem to have real problems with what is goin on at our place .

Asked this question on the pre match day thread and as yet no takers from the Arsenal side so i'll ask again on this thread.

I genuinely would like to know what City or any other club outside of the traditional top 4 were/are supposed to do to break into that elite top four and then go on and sustain it for years whilst acheiving any degree of success coupling the Champions League along the way.

The reality is there was/is none other than to buy your way into it. I genuinely genuinely look at the likes of the West Hams, Aston Villa and Newcastle's of this world and feel for them and think that was us a few years ago and look at just how much money, time, effort, heartache, bad press and general mud throwing we've had to take just to get this far and we've still along way to go yet.

I look around at what our owners have been doing since day one here and sometimes have to pinch myself at how lucky we are and why us? I look at all the things off the pitch they've done and I know it would never have happened in my lifetime without them. It was a dream, a pipedream to think we could climb the table each year and strengthen the squad every year and then climb another few places until eventually we broke into the big time and get one of those coveted moneybags Champions League placings. The reason is whilst teams like us are chipping away at it, teams like yourselves in the Champions League have got the foot firmly pressed to the floor on the accelerator and the gap widens year after year. There is no catching up in the old traditional ways. FFPR will kill any chances of West Ham, Aston Villa and Newcastle fans of ever having a day like we did last May. And that I find is a sad situation. Every club and every fan should have that dream every season but unfortunately that isn't the reality.

Great post, spot on

Some fans don't want him because he has an allegedly dodgy past, and because they have bought into the ''self-sustaining v sugardaddy''propaganda. Increasing numbers, who are now a majority, do want his involvement. They will usually qualify it with statements like ''lesser of two evils'' or ''if you can't 'em join 'em''. I'd welcome him.

SWP, you may as well bang your head against the wall, this lot can't see past the last trophy less 8 years and their jealousy of city who didn't do it 'pwoper'.

What I would like to know is why clubs like Arsenal and United always say they have earned their money the right way by winning things. Both United and Arsenal was invested in before becoming successful. Us and Chelsea will start to spend what we earn when we become more successful but the hypocrisy from other clubs when we invest is laughable.

Its called plausible forgetfulness my friend.

I won't argue with the need for outside cash to get to the top table, and I won't get into the fact that any investment into United or Arsenal was on a much smaller scale than at City and Chelsea.

Chelsea have won everything there is in the 9 years since Abramovich took over. Yet they will post another massive loss following the big summer buys and early elimination from the CL, so I'm not sure they will ever limit themselves to spending what they earn. Its too early to judge City on that front.

Football continually evolves, methods of investment continually evolves. So keep up or just moan about it and be left behind.

The investment in Arsenal was only "smaller" because of the historical timing. When you bought success it was cheaper to do it, that's all. It's like getting self-righteous because you bought a house for £30k in 1970 that now costs anyone entering the market £500k. Nothing to do with being astute or somehow more meritorious, simply an accident of timing.

At least you acknowledge that outside cash is needed to get to the top table. Presumably you are a vociferous critic of FFPR which is designed to prevent people doing exactly that.

The investment was £50m in 1993 or 1994. At the time, good players were going for £3m and exceptional players (Bergkamp) were going for about £7m. Nowadays £25m is the standard for a good player and £50m plus for an exceptional one. So it's fair to say that £50m then is the equivalent of something around £400m now in buying power. Which is the same as our net spend over the last 5 seasons.
