I'm trying not to make excuses here but you simply do not understand how poorly run our club is. For example fans orderiing things from the club website only to be told that they ran out of stock 3 months ago. The fact that the employees make no effort to engage with the fans or even speak to us. Despite the stigma attached to foreign owners, I think your owners have made sure you keep your identity. We're run by a patronising clown who spends most of his time answering a question by asking 1. Nobody denies he supports Everton, so does Wayne Rooney and Jamie Carragher you woudn't want them running your club. His stupid dancing at Wembley, his ridiculous support for Desination Kirkby and various other products. From what I read on your forums I think City honestly care about their fans and how they think un like Everton. We're stuck in the dark ages, the worst run club in the Prem. Like I said I don't know where all this hostilty comes from Everton fans give an honest assessment when comparing the 2 clubs. Even Noel Gallagher said that we remind him of City, 2 family clubs competing against a much larger neighbour for dominance. Most Everton fans respect City and their fans and I think it's sad there's so much bitterness between the 2 teams.
Trust us, we know all too well!

City went from being a premier club of this country, a club whose attendances were only bettered by Liverpool and the Rags at the time, a club who'd just won 5 major trophies in 8 years with two other 2nd place finishes in the league and two runners up medals in cup finals, a club that had players as good as any club can ever boast about being greats.... to an absolute joke of a club who sold all it's best players and young local players, who sacked 21 managers in 23 years, who went from losing the league title to the great Liverpool in 1977 by just one point (at a time when Liverpool and Forest were winning European Cups tells you how good that City side were!) to being 14th in the third division at one stage in 1998, a club that had every bit of the bad bits that you are experiencing at Everton currently but in a much worse state of affairs to finishing in the top half every season with some players as good as some of the very top sides in your team.

-- Sat Sep 24, 2011 8:08 am --

serious question - was that experience enjoyable (in a weird way)... you know, playing at Stockport, Macc, Lincolkn etc...?

I think it would sound - for a bit anway - but after a few years do your tits in.
It's a tough question, that. I can honestly say I've only ever not enjoyed one period of my entire City supporting history and that was a Premier League season. That was the last season under Pearce when we flirted with relegation and didn't score at home for six months - I actually wanted us to get relegated that season so I could enjoy the following season more as I'd see more goals and more wins!

Even in the mid 90's, when we were shit in the Prem, being a City fan was quality (although Alan Ball was a tosser!). United were winning everything but Oasis had just become huge and there was a cool-ness, a cult feel, a swagger, a big FUCK OFF to everyone about being a Blue. Use Rösler (my favourite ever City player) and Kinkladze were playing and it was honestly a good time even though we weren't good. Brian Horton was my favourite manager of the 90's, even though we finsihed bottom half and we'd finisihed 5th with Kendall and 5th with Reid, the whole feel of City under Horton was top!

I loved our teams when we were in the leagues below the Prem. I still now love Nick Weaver, Andy Morrison, Kevin Horlock, Paul Dickov and Shaun Goater more than anyone who currently plays for us; I was devastated to see Shauny Wright (Wright, Wright) leave again this summer as he was there with us from being a lad and knows what this club is all about and we are his club; Gerrard Weikens, Ali Benarbia...

Going to places like Bournmouth and Lincoln was - in all honesty - a buzz. Taking huge followings everywhere (we had a better away following then than we do now - at some places we had 20% of the attendance, at Crewe we had 50%) and getting 28000 at home whilst United were winning the treble made me feel more proud of my club than any fan of any club anywhere.

My favourite day being a City fan was an early 2002 second division (now Championship) game at Hillsborough. We beat Wednesday 6-2 in the sunshine and we had about 7000 in the away end and a few hundred scattered about in the Weds ends. The atmosphere from us that day was immense and it was just mint being a City fan!

Losing at Bury was fucking shit though, I hated that night!

But yes, as well as being shit, in a very strange way, it was all enjoyable. I think the actual promotions help. That Wembley come back was unbelievably emtional, and that thrashing of Blackburn and the unbelievable turn-out of about 12000 away fans at Ewood was a fantastic day. I always say, when an Everton fan is on here giving us shit about them times, that I'd rather keep them memories and treasure them forever than have the memories of the most 0-0 draws and 15th place finishes in football history!

I enjoyed the "3rd Div" season because it had an sense of desperation about it.

We had to get out of it. And when visiting teams came, it was their biggest game. Other fans were so happy that we were down there. You're not famous anymore was the cry!

At first we struggled and were mid-table, but we then signed a mountain of a player called Andy Morrison and we started to handle the rough stuff
