Oscar Bobb

Size matters, especially if you’re not that 1 in a million who can be a David or Bernardo Silva.

If his name was Oscar SILVA, then maybe! ;-)

Physicality has GREATLY improved in the City team and we are a much bigger, stronger team than we had been. It is becoming increasingly important as technical ability is a basic requirement to be in this squad.

I’ve been around and around with a few on this Forum that TECHNICAL ABILITY is #1 and increasingly the PHYSICALITY to compete against the increasingly physicality of others is becoming ever more important!

Rodri & Stones in midfield with a back 3 of any of Walker/Dias/Laporte/Ake/Akanji is a big strong defensive unit. Then, upfront we have the biggest, strongest unit in the League complemented by skillful creatives that walk into any team in Europe.

Unless you can show yourself to be a Silva, Mahrez, Foden, then you’re struggling at the Elite level. One only needs to look at a Grealish to see that if you’re not topping the tape at 5’11” or bigger, you have to be both strong on the ball and protective of it against big, strong, fast and often brutal defenders.

Our League, and possibly the Bundesliga, is the most physically demanding League in the world, and we certainly play more games than anyone else. That requires a specific skill set that elicits comments like “I’m not sure my body can take another season in England,” and players leave for physically less demanding shores.

I hope Oscar, and all the Academy talent, can fill out the First Team Squad in the coming years, but you are going to have to be a special, special talent to do so…especially if you are physically smaller than average.

I look at the spine of our team and think it’s hilarious that our Goalkeeper is the little guy in the mix!!!

And, anyone who doesn’t think that Rodri has not secured almost God-like status in midfield has simply ignored the fact that as he has matured into his role in this team, and cemented himself as the #1 in the world, he has lost weight while gaining strength, agility and speed! UFB for such a big unit!!

After what Tommy Doyle, McAtee, THB and Callum Doyle achieved this season we will have a queue of Championship clubs waiting to loan our lads and whoever gets Bobb is going to benefit if they can give him a platform to play his game. I think McAtee and Doyle both being at the Blades benefited them both so maybe Bobb should be in a package deal with a player like Borges.
I like how Tony Mowbray tries to play attacking football so maybe Sunderland could be a good destination.

Surprisingly if Coventry go up then even though it might be sooner than expected they could get Callum Doyle back on loan again, it'd obviously be a huge step up for him sooner than we anticipated but he'd deserve to be a part of their squad if promoted.

The young lads will defo have a queue of championship teams and maybe even a few top flight ones dotted around Europe too, it'd be great to see more loans where a couple of ours go to one specific team but not essential.

One of Borges and Mebude joining Bobb at a team could help direct their play style more in our/the kids favour and would be a good thing, sometimes though like McAtee this season he stepped up to the challenge of adapting to a different style, that could be vital t his first tema chances as Pep always looks for his players to show more versatility in their roles, so it can still be abeneficial loan without being perfect for him in style.

Personally I can see Bobb adapting very well he adapts to different roles and positions in the academy we'd all like to see him in an advanced role on loan, it's just if there's an adjustment in the intensity of the men's game it could be energy sapping and take a couple months to adjust like McAtee, but he seems fine he's very aware of his surroundings great at knowing when to release a pass and retaining the ball under pressure. I guess only time will tell but hopefully whoever Bobb joins he'll have some good solid players at that level, preferably positionally sound energetic types to back him up in the early months and pacey wide men play to his attacking strengths.

Size doesn’t matter you muppet. I find it ridiculous how everyone thinks you have to be built like a bodybuilder these days to be a footballer

Physicality encompasses energy levels too and there's always at least slight concerns over that when a kid adapts to the mens game energy wise.

There was no need at all to be calling anybody a Muppet for stating that.

He does look good. Never really noticed him as being tiny, though obviously he is a bit shorter than others.

I guess as long as he bulks up and can match Bernardo Silva's size and physicality then he's got a bit of a chance...

We just need to see how he copes with the energy demands of league football more than anything it's always a step up physically, technically though and intelligence even energy wise he's in a very good place for his age group, it could just be an adjustment and mentally very tiring we'll have to see how he gets on, but for now I'm more looking forward to maybe seeing him on preseason where Pep will run the rule over him and some other kids more closely.

Believed in him since day 1
That'd make him 2023 years old!!!

(I presume you aren't talking about day 1 of the existence of man or life on the planet or the birth of Earth or the Big Bang cos that'd be silly)

You know there have been people on this planet for a lot longer than 2023 years, right?

Played really well for the u21s today.

They lost but he was a level above, senior team will definitely be calling him up next year.

Hopefully he goes into our senior team this season, Pep loves this kind of silky player.
Thanks for that, I didn't see the game but rate him very highly.
