Other teams songs once sung at City

You'll Never Walk Alone was sung by a lot of different fans, us included in the 60's. Also remember our version of Blaydon Races with the last line being 'going down the Claremont Rd, to see Joe Mercer's aces'.

Hey, me lads, you should have seen us coming
Fastest team in the land, doing all the running
All the lads and lasses, showing their airs and graces
Walking down the Kippax Street to see Joe Mercer's Aces

Loads of fans used to sing YNWA as a victory song in the 70s. At the end of the 1976 FL Cup final City fans were singing it (have a look back at the videos). Also remember it being sung in the 5-1 against United, at a time when we didn't sing Blue Moon. Obviously then Liverpool used to win everything so I suppose it stuck as their song (it may also have originally started with them in the 60s).

Blue Moon actually was Crewe's song before we started with it.

I always remember Ark Now Hear being sung by United originally.

Hark not Ark. It means listen

Remember YNWA being sung with the claps in between and regularly singing Blaydon Races. Version I remember was:

Oh me lads, you shoulda seen us coming
Fastest team in the league, you shoulda seen us coming
All the lads and lasses, with smiles upon their faces
Walking up to Maine Road
To see Joe Mercer's aces

That's the version I remember (apart from 'land' in place of 'league' and 'down' to Maine Road rather than 'up' -although that could have been me mis-singing!)

And

Walking DOWN to Maine road

Got to say I laughed at 'showing their airs and graces'! In the post above yours

Agreed DD. There weren't many City fans I remember stood pissing alongside me in the Kippax bogs with too many airs and graces.

I remember YNWA being sung at the end of the Charlton 5-1 game, but until now I thought I must have imagined it (I was only 7). I also remember singing it at Oxford after Hillsborough as a tribute to the fans that had died, pretty heartbreaking that.

I remember us singing “always look on the bright side of life” when we were 6 ~ 0 down at Derby. Long before I heard the rags singing it.

We took the piss out of ourselves. They used it to take the possible out of others.

They only started singing that after they heard Sheffield Wednesday singing it all day when they met in the League Cup Final.

To be fair not many football songs are that original. Most of them used to be to the tunes of hymns.
