Other teams songs once sung at City

Remember the Rangers-Celtic chants, most chanted for Rangers.

I remember us singing “always look on the bright side of life” when we were 6 ~ 0 down at Derby. Long before I heard the rags singing it.

We took the piss out of ourselves. They used it to take the possible out of others.

They only started singing that after they heard Sheffield Wednesday singing it all day when they met in the League Cup Final.

To be fair not many football songs are that original. Most of them used to be to the tunes of hymns.

My mate Tony was an Owls fans and he said they'd been singing it for years and also sung Always looking in Brightside for life - Brightside being a rough area around Hillsborough.

Best memory of YNWA was stood on a box as a 7 year old in the Holte End in 1981

As for Hark now.. My rag mate said they sang it to the scousers after playing them Boxing Day years ago and it obviously kicking off!!

Things must have mellowed, or maybe it's the all seaters cos 'you're going to get your fucking heads kicked in' is never heard these days, along with its mate 'you're going home in a fucking ambulance'.

I remember that one like it was yesterday. I was 11 years old and in the seats up the side. As everyone used to waves their scarves to it, the whole section seemed to turn totally blue.

Very impressive to an 11 year old lad.

Hey, me lads, you should have seen us coming
Fastest team in the land, doing all the running
All the lads and lasses, showing their airs and graces
Walking down the Kippax Street to see Joe Mercer's Aces
Remember YNWA being sung with the claps in between and regularly singing Blaydon Races. Version I remember was:

Oh me lads, you shoulda seen us coming
Fastest team in the league, you shoulda seen us coming
All the lads and lasses, with smiles upon their faces
Walking up to Maine Road
To see Joe Mercer's aces
That's the version I remember (apart from 'land' in place of 'league' and 'down' to Maine Road rather than 'up' -although that could have been me mis-singing!)

land, seen us running and Maine Road is from my memory bank

"If you want a cathedral we've got one to spare
In our Manchester homes."

A ridiculous steal. Since when did Manchester have two cathedrals?

There weren't many City fans I remember stood pissing alongside me in the Kippax bogs with too many airs and graces.

I would respectfully ask you to withdraw that remark, GDM. I like to think i brought a touch of class to the queue for the piss-stones.

Not heard 'he's only a poor little cockney' for a while either.
