Our attack - what's off?

I'd like to see a 3 at the back,as i think we have the players to make that system work and i also think it will make us far more direct in our build up.Who knows,we might even look like an exciting team again.

Something like this:

Ederson
Dias Laporte Ake
Sterling KDB Rodri Foden Cancelo
Aguero Jesus

--------Walker--Dias--Laporte--------
Cancelo----------------------------Mendy
--------------KDB-----Dinho---------------
-------Bernie-----Jesus------Foden------

IMO attack wise we are missing someone who can dictate speed of play, when to go fast and when to slow it down, that was Dave for so long. KDB doesn't do that, he is a killer but he needs a partner in crime and Phil isn't able to control a game yet. We also miss that explosive attacking pace we had with Sane, Torres (for now) doesn't seem to be the same kind of player. Maybe Pep is trying to evolve the team into something else, and it's not quite working yet.

1 Against low blocks, we need to make the pitch wider, outflank the defence, get to the bye line, and cut it back.
2 To do this, put Raz on the right, and a genuine left winger would help. Better crosses.
3 Faster tempo in midfield, faster transitions.
4 Urgently need extra striker. 2 is not enough and Aguero coming to the end.

Rodri is not the Fernandinho solution. The Fernandinho solution was called Thomas Partey. I bet Arteta knew it!

Agree would like to see this too. Maybe a 3142 like Leipzig tend to play, could get more out of the options we have. Cancelo has been excellent recently & this could help us get the best of him. 3 CBs could help out our lightweight midfield problem, and we press far more effectively with 2 strikers (like we did at the Bernabeu & at the swamp in carabao).

Ederson
Walker Dias Laporte
Gundogan
Cancelo KDB Foden Zinchenko
Jesus Sterling

We set up quite similarly to the above a few times at the beginning of the 17/18 season until Mendy’s injury.

We could even bring Angelino home to replace Zinchenko or Mendy.

It seems to me that we set up more defensively this year than we would have in past years - leading to fewer goals.

The absence of David Silva is having an impact as well.

With COVID-19, and the strange transfer window, I think that management viewed last summer as a transition period - big changes are necessary but for the long term benefit of the club, perhaps such changes are being deferred until next year when a more normal transfer market resumes.

Wild card - will Pep renew his contract? I very much hope so - the prospect of improving our side must be appealing - and as far as holding the hearts-and-minds of his players - departing if he feels he's lost the dressing room - I think that our players are 100% committed to Pep. My fingers are crossed hoping that Pep is with us next season.
