Our attack - what's off?

It really pisses me off when people say Bernardo has been off for 15 months. Bernardo is genuinely a world class talent and you all just write him off like this because pep prefers plodders.

Bernardo even this year when you see him play, his class shines his ball retention is not matched by any other player in this team.

City have been best to watch in the CL when he’s been playing Bernardo and Foden.

the problem with Bernardo is the lack of regular game time and a position that he can make his own. And that’s because Pep won’t allow it.

funny because he will allow others to have ten consecutive shit games and still continue to play them.

Some will laugh at what I’m about to say but I would love for pep to try Kevin deep with Foden and Bernardo ahead of him. Imagine the energy, imagine the link up.

If we go back to defending as a team and high pressing then that midfield trio could work. Foden and Bernardo have they energy to track back and tackle when they need to. To really get the most out of that setup though both Foden and Bernardo would need to become positionally savvy. KDB would be great in the pívot but equally he likes to roam and should be encouraged to do so. If Foden or Bernardo could read that and drop back where necessary we might not get caught short.

Ederson
Walker Dias Laporte Cancelo
KDB
Bernardo Foden
Torres Agüero Sterling

Would love to see it!

That is the team only with Stones and anyone for LB as they all useless.

Kev dictating from rodders position would be a revelation.

What's off?

Mostly our press - the cornerstone of our game.
Don't press aggressively enough - fail to win the ball back quickly sometimes open to goals.

Don't press aggressively enough - fail to win the ball back quickly - missed opportunities to score with the defense out of position.
===
Another factor - we're two years older from our last dominant side - further affecting our press and attack.

Its coming upto 2 years ago, but the press and energy city, and especially Bernard Silva had the night we beat the dippers 2-1 at the Etihad seems a generation ago

We don't get enough bodies in the box for a start, it's all tippy tappy 25 yards out, side to side and back again, with maybe one player in the box. Notice when a bit of desperation set in last night, players started getting into the box in numbers the last 10 or 15 minutes and all of a sudden glorious chances are created, the fact they were missed, doesn't take away from the point of get bodies in the box.

I’m becoming very concerned now that this isn’t tiredness from a lack of pre-season etc a that we actually are in a massive decline.

the trouble is, I’m not even sure pep and the players know want it enough.

there is absolutely no way on earth they’d put in a performance like that with 50,000 fans on their back and they’d have been rightly booed off.

how can we play two defensive midfielders and 4 defenders against West Brom at home??

how did foden come off for aguero instead of Rodri??

how can pep sit slumped in his chair watching this shite and make no subs??

As for Sterling, I’d snatch off anybody’s hand who offered us £150m. When we were playing well I always said sterling’s numbers were a product of the way the team plays rather than his own performances. If you put enough chances on a plate for someone then they’ll start scoring but he should’ve been the country’s leading scorer in 17/18 and 18/19. The way we are playing at the moment highlights my point as he has absolutely no effect on our game whatsoever. Won’t beat his man, can’t finish and slows the game down.

i was definitely “Messi in” when it nearly happened in the summer but the way we are playing and our troubles with injuries/form in front of goal I’m not sure a 34 year old Messi is the answer.

we’re desperately in need of a LB, CM, striker and a proper wide player

On another note Gundogan was fantastic last night and the only player showing any bollocks.

First & foremost, inability to convert scoring chances and that will be the case without a bonafide goalscorer

Apart from that, poor attacking width - combination of the fullbacks & the wide attacking frontline players

I also do not agree about depth chart for LB: Zinchenko > Mendy for me

Not one of Mahrez Jesus or Sterling are natural finishers.
you wouldn’t back any of them one on one with the keeper.
Their efforts from the penalty spot illustrate how they choke in front of goal.
I was hoping that Delap might have been given more of a chance.
He seems to back himself

Buy Ibrahimovic and we're sorted. I know it sounds ridiculous but its true.

We dont buy that sort of player because they upset the balance in the dressing room but Drogba/Costa sort of player who isnt so mentally weak that he's affected by pressure of scoring.
