Sterling, Silva, De Bruyne and Aguero, on paper there isnt a better front four in the premier league and you would struggle to find better in the world excluded Bayern, Barca and Madrid. So why isnt it quite clicking? Is it because they just need a run of games together due to aguero and silvas injuries?

Im hoping these four start blowing teams away, but will they? There are even threads on how de bruyne and silva cant play together, surely thats nonsense.

Would a line up like this work?

.......Strerling........Aguero
Silva...............................De Bruyne

This is opposed to our current formation whereby aguero is up top basically alone.

For me it doesn't work because it simply makes the team too unbalanced. You've pointed out Bayern, Barca and Madrid having a better front four but I'd argue they don't have what you'd call a front four, they have a front three! Certainly Barca have never played with a front four. Drop one of them and add an inferior player like Delph into central midfield and even then we are better balanced and improved team.

Me personally,

I think 3 of them can play together but not all 4 at the moment. For me the choice isn't Silva or KDB but KDB or Sterling. Playing both tends to lead to us losing possession rather too often which in turn puts our defence under more pressure.

I'd prefer:

...........Aguero

KDB......Silva......Navas

With Sterling being the alternative to KDB. Maybe we'll find a way to fit all 4 in effectively at some stage but for now I'd go with the above.

The thing about those four is that when they play together one has a cracking game and the others are pretty ordinary, and then they take it in turns. We need to have all four firing on all cylinders and lashing in goals left right and centre, so the back five won't feel so bad about letting in the odd shitty one!

Sky kept on calling them the 'Fab 4'. Ah?!

TBH it was a bit cheesy.

Something you'd associate with the Rags over their 26 years of winning trophies.

They don't track back or press enough for me.
They did at the start of the season but they aren't at the moment which is a concern.

The problem is that although the "fab 4" (as Sky like to call them) are definitely on paper the best front 4 in the league, each one is looking to do their own thing in a way (Silva possibly excluded).

On Saturday against Watford, KDB, Sterling and Aguero were all guilty of not playing one of the others in and being greedy. It's the nature of the beast really as they all want to score themselves and take the limelight as well as it being their instinct.

We've had Bernabia and Berkovic which took time to work...Nasri and Silva does as well....no reason why the Fab 4 won't. ..just give it time.

Your suggested formation was used against Leiecester was it not, we essentially had a 442 with Silva & KdB on the wings if I remember (definitely seen us use it recently). Personally hate it, means almost all our players play out of position & provides even less protection to the defence.

Silva is out of form, probably due to the injury. KdB is playing out of position. Sterling is young & will naturally have his good games & less good games. Aguero is just coming back from injury & looks rusty. On top of that they've not had too many games to gel properly. If they stay fit for a good run then you'd imagine they will become more effective together.

Don't really think Pellegrini knows how best to use them. We were better before we got KdB in a way; had 2 natural wide men who track back, Silva in favoured position & Aguero fit, hard to mess that up.

Navas played in most of those games and DB wasn't involved in any bar the Palace game as a sub, albeit it an early one. I agree with you though, they don't work hard enough at the defensive side of the game.
