I think you nailed it. For the reasons you listed, I think some people struggle to relate to him. They therefore use periods of bad form to take their dislike out on him. They're happy City are successful but they'd prefer it not to be under Pep.

What a load of old bollox mate. This club has steel running all the way through it. You can't stop people's emotions. Even if an empty vassal make the most noise, it doesn't take away the solid foundation of a club that has been nothing short of a roller coaster ride and has the very best support.

Agree with almost all of this. Only part I'd go against us that I don't like posts getting deleted where someone is being a twat. It's better that everyone can see that as it says more about the poster than the player they're talking about.

The relentless and repetitive nature of some of the critiques suggests to me that Pep isn’t “liked” by a few people. I sort of get it. He’s a genius, he’s handsome, well remunerated, and he’s probably on some level bigger than the club. That is going to make some people insecure. It’s easier to like a plucky loser who kisses the badge.

I think some of Pep's tactics are too complex for some. Which is probably fair as occasionally they're too complex for Pep and the team also...

But seriously, after Pep had signed but before he started with us, i read one of the Marti Perarnau books about Pep (the evolution one) to help me understand what to expect. I'm glad I did as it gave me way more understanding than I would have had otherwise. The attention to detail, the way sometimes he knew the team would suffer in certain spells before coming out on top. It's all thought out. I can't always follow what that plan is - in fact I usually can't - but I know there is a plan.

I think some don't like that we don't go at 100 mph all match, every match, frantic excitement. Well, you might get excitement that way but we certainly wouldn't get as many trophies.

It's why I don't criticise him too much. He really, really knows what he's doing - but things can't work all the time. There are other teams with good managers and good players. And then there's also refs and var. Even Pep can't take care of everything.

TBH I contribute a tiny bit on the game in the matchday threads, as I’m watching, mainly quick one liners.
I also sometimes put a paragraph or two together in the post match thread.

I can’t say I read everything so may miss a lot of what some are complaining about, but even with the critiques that are levelled against the team, I think the ‘get fucked …. so and so’ messages are a minority of the actual analysis offered by most that are concerned.
Maybe I just read people differently. I certainly don’t engage in replying to what comes across as incendiary or fishing, but some do and the personalisation of the debate ensues then.

This though is still a small minority. Most of the criticisms I read and write also, don’t give me the impression of lack of support, entitlement, spoilt twats …. which is what is being levelled at anything that is seen as a dissenting voice in here.

A summation of the matchday thread the other night, from me IMO, would be, we are still not at our best. We are not clicking. We are predictable. There are squad problems that need addressing, the evidence being the trend of how our play has gone this season.
However an away draw is a good result, we are still in contention in three competitions even without consistency and while in transition.

I didn’t come across anyone saying we are a disaster, either in that thread or this. I think maybe a bit of perspective from both sides of the fence is required.
And No, I wasn’t at York away so I appreciate I’m just a plastic know nothing blow in, so disregard this post too.
