Our support on here

A strong reminder that poor performances happen in football. It’s completely normal to lose and not play well. We’ve lost our first game in 11 months and haven’t lost in the CL for an ALL TIME record amount of games.

These lads have delivered unprecedented success and literally getting on their backs after this is genuinely astounding and quite frankly shit support.

You only have to look at the comments in this thread - the season we won the fucking treble - to see that odd defeats & bad performances happen in any season.
Great bump. It feels like every season for the last 4-5 seasons, whenever we get a bad result or hit a dry spell, you have dozens of people saying "Yes we've had bad spells before but THIS ONE is different"... But then it all works out and we forget about any problems we had during the season. The revisionism that occurs between June and August about the season just gone is scary. This bad spell we're in might be different. It might the one that brings it all crashing down. But I wish they'd give it chance to happen first.

Your original thread was made in bloody February 2023 - sometimes it takes that far into a season for Pep to sort things out. It's hysterical reading some of the posts as well, saying "Why do we never pass to Haaland?" "Why does it take us 40 passes to shoot? I remember when we'd just score all the time!" "Some of the lads don't even look interested" "This is a rebuild season, write it off" Within four months of all those posts we were immortal. How that treble season didn't teach us all to wait until March to start making assessments is beyond me.

I saw some people saying our performance today was the worst they'd ever seen under Pep. Do they not remember the hammerings given to us by Everton and Leicester in 16/17, the absolute abject misery of losing all those derbies to Solskjaer, getting dicked 5-2 at home by Leicester, the 2-0 League Cup defeat against Southampton, the hammering Villa gave us this time last season (which ironically was our last defeat before today)? We have seen so, so much worse. Things need to get better from where they are but they will in time - sooner than some think.

I've lost count of "great weekends" for City, when everything seems to go for us. Dippers drop points, Rags lose etc etc.

It's rare in the last few years that weekends like this one happen (I expect the Rags to win tomorrow).

But, fuck me, have we forgotten what it used to be like? Every weekend was a shit weekend. Fucking dire.

Lest we forget.

I think many of us were there in the dark days, I certainly was. Obviously our expectations are rightly higher now and we've certainly been rewarded, especially since Pep came. Funnily enough defeats hurt more now we're successful as we're usually fighting for the title instead of relegation or mid table obscurity. Back then a win was an unexpected bonus.

I expected us to.lose today. We are just carrying too many injuries at the moment and most of the ones playing today weren't fully match fit. As a result our form has been poor but we've been scraping over the line. Bournemouth are in a rich vein of form, had six days rest and are always a tough nut to play at home. Even after a pretty horrendous performance by our standards with a bit of luck we could have scraped a draw at the death.

It looks like we'll have to do it the hard way again if we do win the title this season. Champions league midweek and then away at a high pressing in form Brighton who should have won at Liverpool today. It certainly doesn't get any easier!

I’ve genuinely never seen the support on here be so negative towards the players and manager and I’ve posted on here for 15 years. It’s got to the point where 1-1 draws away in the CL are being treated by many as if we’ve just lost to bottom of the league. It used to be the match threads but now even the post match threads are just as bad.

People have become so accustomed to an elite football brand that anything below it is now leading to bizarre suggestions that the manager who brought that brand of football should now leave the club.

We’re 2nd in the league (2 points off top), in the 5th round of the cup (beat Chelsea & Arsenal) and in a great position to go through to the quarter finals of the CL. If I was reading some of the comments on here completely blind, I’d think we were having the season Liverpool are having. That’s the level of shit that realistically should lead to some of the comments I’ve seen on here.

You can’t be great every single year. It’s impossible. It’s why we’re the only team since 2009 to retain the title (x2) and why most managers get sacked the year after just one title is won. To win back to back titles for the second time in 5 years and to then be in our current position in the 6th year is immense.

Seriously guys, I can’t believe the absolute misery and unhappiness. If you’re so miserable now then you’re going to be in for a rude awakening when Pep eventually leaves and we have odd ‘really’ bad seasons like Utd, Chelsea, Liverpool and Arsenal all do. Back the manager and team because they’ll come up trump in the end. They always do and if they don’t win the big prizes, they’ll come back again and win them next year.

Edit - I expect the miserable sods to carry on their spoilt brat support act in this very thread :)

If you take your foot of the gas the rest catch up. We are our own worst enemy, we now have no left backs and in reality no right backs. Potentially we have a superb center half pairing in Ruben and Josko. However we have an ageing and poorly balanced squad. We have to buy and strengthen to be number one just in the EPL, never mind the CL.
We can't play to get the best out of Erling, because we are slow at the back and in most areas of the pitch. No.ovrrlaps on the wings when attacking has been missing for two seasons. We can't buy everyone, but we have a weaker squad than last season and this has been a trait for the last two seasons. This has been offset by some superb performances from a core of 9 players. But they are getting old and todays team was simply poor and not good enough on the day. Ake Kyle and Akanji are no longer good enough, injuries.age, or both have took its tool toll.
The youth team has produced several decent attacking players, hopefully it will produce more.

Ake and Akanji suddenly not good enough, seriously?

Your other arguments are weakened by that, imho. I wasn't at all surprised we lost today. I won't be surprised if we lose midweek and next weekend as well. I also won't be worried. We just have to get through the next week as unscathed as possible, then regroup after the international break.

It seemed to me that Guardiola has that attitude as well.

No-one can disagree that we clearly need to invest in some areas but there is disappointment in losing a game and there is wild over-reaction.

If you believe Ake and Akanji are still good enough then we shouldn't clearly need to invest. Losing 4 games on the trot won't be good enough and would a good indication of the teams quality dropping. If we lose the next 2.

I don't care how many games we lose on the trot, tbh. What I care about is top 8 in CL in the new year and top of PL at the end of the season.

We just have to get through this next week with minimum damage in both of those competitions.

Why would anyone criticise this group of players ?
I like to think that us fans are part of the club and team. This team needs us now.
These players haven't had a real break/rest for over 2 years now. They are knackered both physically and mentally, when this happens the body gets more injuries.
These plays may look of it, slow, etc because they are mentally tied. The treble, four in a row is going to be mentally trying, after a very short break to pick yourself up and go again it's not easy.
These players have been bloody amazing and deserve support not criticism.

I believe some have perhaps come to the end of their team with us. That said I will still support them 100% thanks to them we have had a great run.

As for the matchday thread if they are City fans than most need to grow up and appreciate these players. I do think a high percentage on there aren't City fans.
