Re: owen hargreaves

I have to say that some of the comments on here about OH are pretty fucking sad and that's putting it mildly. The lad was fucking ace, a proper world class player before his injuries and the You Tube videos, whilst a tad upsetting, show that he wants to apply his trade and it seems he is happy to do that for very little reward if that is what it takes to get back in work. That is to be admired and if our internal and independent medical advisors claim he is fit, then I see no reason why we shouldn't give him a pay if you play deal. He will be out to prove a point to the rags and that is no bad thing. The cynical comments on here at times are fucking bewildering.

Re: is hargreaves the safety net for de rossi?

I thinks it's because so far we have been unable to land anyone else. It's a viera type signing to plug the gap. I would have jizzed my kecks if we got de rossi but we all knew that we had no chance of luring him away from rome

Re: is hargreaves the safety net for de rossi?

we never really stood a chance of signing de rossi, his heart is at roma and that's where he'll remain. it's politics.

He /was/ a 'lightning fast', agile Barry, with a higher work rate than Milner.
Seperating him from typical English players, is that his technique was great.
Powerful shot. Used to be known to be a FK specialist. Big time big game player.
Oh, I forgot to mention his passing was sublime. Hell for the type of midfielder he was, I'd even say he was creative. I really, really, rated this guy, and he was the one rag I wanted to succeed.

Basically, he was everything you could want from a midfielder. CM, DM, AM (If needed), R/L Winger, and RB? A true midfield enforcer.

His stamina was already naturally superhuman and he's been working out himself. If he's really, fit, I could believe it. He probably won't be as polished of a world class footballer as he once was but if he gets some game time, and stays healthy, it could come back, and I think we would have our very own "Cinderella Man".

As another poster said, if he is 70% of what he used to be, I'd want him in the squad. He's out to make a point to all the people that wrote him off because he had the worst luck you could bestow on an athlete. He isn't injury prone imo, just unlucky. Remember, up until he was 26, 3 years or so ago, it wasn't ever bad.

Give him a chance, all you spoilt children that want another superstar. If it doesn't work out, then it doesn't. If it does work out, only time will dictate what benefits we could reap.

-----------------
P.S.: I do have a theory/question, if his body is healthy now, considering, he hasn't played as much for the last few years could his body be less deteriorated than comparable athletes at his age and capable of working for more years to come?
Good post jjeangi. My favourite England player at the world cup and my favourite rag (if such a thing exists). I admire his determination and hope he succeeds
For those who forgot about Hargreaves, I forgot to mention his tackling and crossing.
He is very intelligent, and it showed in how he played. Even though he was constantly exerting himself because of his stamina and work rate, he was able to read to game very well. That's something you expect from a lazier person (Balo: Lazy, but reads the game well). Hargreaves constantly sliding in De Jong fashion, intercepting loose balls, only to set up a counter, and sending in a venomous curling cross.

That's the Hargreaves I remember, and that's the Hargreaves I hope to see again, even if a slightly inferior version.

I know I already mentioned it, but his stamina alone deserved accolades, although it's very unlikely he'll ever get to this level ever again. But this guys stamina was monstrous, definately better than Milner, and Tevez, who I've seen wane at times in some games. Whereas, I have a distinct memory of seeing Hargreaves in the 1st minute hounding players down in the dying minutes of extra time with the same intensity as in the 1st minutes. I remember even reading on redcafe several years back that he would always shit on everyone in the bleep tests.

This guy was something, anyone who's at least maybe 18 years old should be old enough to really remember at his peak. The only rag I ever admired, admittedly. (Hang me later)

If he joins, give him all your support (especially you fans that have the honor of still being able to see COMS on those dark rainy nights)

-- Tue Aug 30, 2011 6:18 pm --

Re: is hargreaves the safety net for de rossi?

One club player he would never perform outside that club and Italy IMO.

We are getting Hargreaves for cover it's as simple as that.

Re: owen hargreaves

sign the lad up till jan, give him part game time in the league, start in the league cup, till early november then give him a league start, then the lad has got some time under his belt, if it works you have a carrot and stick job with a contract waiting in january, the lad did brilliiant at bayern so it could end up being a very shrewd but no risk signing.

sorry but dont understand this transfer surely its the same scenario as m johnson who we loaned to leicester why not just recall him.its a weird one

Jesus.
Hargreaves is a double Champions league winner, Premier league winner and has played in 2 World cups.
Johnson had one good season when he was 18.
There's the difference
