You two are not comparing like with like. All of Australia is shown in the picture but only about half of the 3,930,000 square miles of Europe. Part of Denmark, Norway, Finland, Estonia, Latvia,Lithuania,Belarus, Ukraine,Moldova,Russia west of the Urals and part of Khazakstan. Then parts of Georgia, and maybe Azerbaijan are included in the 2nd calculation. There's a difference between geographical Europe and political/ socioeconomic Europe.
