Ozzy RIP

Very sad.
Huge fan of Sabbath and Ozzy.
Didn’t go to recent tribute but saw the last ever Sabbath tour gig.
Met him briefly once courtesy of Ross Halfin in a club (out Fallowfield way IIRC) after a Manchester gig. He was having A very quiet drink, I think with Sharon but it could have been his first wife.

RIP Dark Prince.

I remember going to see him on the ultimate sin tour and the Rev Ian Paisley was outside the venue with a number of others protesting, shouting this man is the devil and so on hahahahaha, always remember at the concert before the intro to one of his songs he shouts out “Ian Paisley loves rock n roll”..
The whole ‘satanist’ thing is particularly hilarious as Ozzy was C of E!

The band performed a string of their hits for 40,000 people in the stadium and millions on a livestream. They were joined on stage by a string of rock royalty, including Billy Corgan, Steven Tyler, Tom Morello, Ronnie Wood and Yungblud.

Their final performance raised £140m for charity, according to the event's musical director Tom Morello.

140 million raised for Charity! What a way to go out of this World.

Not a great fan of Heavy Metal, but Black Sabbath were, to my ears, better than all the rest. Very sad news, but not a surprise. i think the gig at Villa Park kept him going, and maybe was a bit too much, but at least he went out on a high.

Probably sacrilegious to say I liked Ozzy’s solo stuff better than Sabbath, which I found turgid and plodding. When on his own, on the other hand, he was faster and funnier, and when Randy Rhoads was in the band, every song was filled with fireworks. Nevertheless, there’s no gainsaying Sabbath’s influence, nor his, and he lived his own way, barreling through time as if he was racing the Devil he so often cheekily used as imagery. What a life. RIP OO.

My mate who’s a good 20 years younger than me has just posted this on our City Whattsapp group:

“The greatest of all time. I’m absolutely broken. He was my hero and seeing them at 16 was life changing and I truly mean that. Saw them 2013 to and then their final show two weeks ago when they fucking rocked the place

How he made to his age god knows. And unlike so many other legends like Lennon, Bowie, mercury, he’s gone out on exactly his own terms with the biggest heavy metal show ever that made £140m for charity

Goodnigt Ozzy. Tell satan there someone in charge now :)”
