Pablo Maffeo

Apparently he very nearly cost Girona the match yesterday, but the ref didn't give a penalty.

Would be great for us if Girona got promoted.

Agreed. Even if they are one of the bottom teams in La Liga, it would be great if we could have a partnership with a club in the Spanish top flight to loan our players to.

See, to me this is really encouraging. This is a kid who's still only 18 making about his 3rd professional start in a new environment at the top end of the Spanish second division in a playoff game and look at how comfortable he looks.

He was in advanced positions though nearly all that when his defensive ability is his main strength. The experience will have been invaluable for him and I hope he is on Pep's radar

Its very clear why the style comparison with Zabaleta has been made.

I never saw an 18yr old Zaba but it wouldnt be beyond the realms of probabliity to suggest he was no better a prospect than this kid.

He's obviously still very raw,and isnt yet ready to come back into our fold, but give it another 12 months and hopefully we will have a star.

It's the tenacity of him that I love. He's built to be a fans' favourite just like Zaba has been

Reading what he was doing at 18 i think Zabba was ahead being a first regular and youth capped with Argentina.

He was playing for San Lorenzo around the age of 18, and played 11 games in his first season. Maffeo is Spain's u19s first choice RB and made 14 appearances for one of the top teams in the second division in Spain. So a team capable playing in the top level in Argentina perhaps. I think that's a very favourable comparison.

Girona have never been a top second division side, they have battled well above their weight for the last couple of seasons and that is it really. San Lorenzo were a continental cup winner. The two teams are nowhere near the same in strength. Not sure how you could say a team in the Spanish second division would be ok in the Argentine first division 15 years ago. What would your points of reference be?

He's referring to the current Girona team which reached the playoff final & by my reckoning that makes them a current top second division side. Maybe historically they might not have the same pedigree but Pablo was playing at a very decent level
