Didn't realize so many people watched Girona this year. Not sure how else we could be so sure that Maffeo is better than Danilo right now.
This is good business. Danilo was never going anywhere this summer, for better or worse. He's an experienced pro who could possibly be starting for Brazil in a month's time and was always going to get a second year. In the meantime Maffeo will go play in a top league, as someone's record signing, and we'll see what he's made of. Hopefully he's good enough that we have to buy him back.

Pretty much nails it.Well probably it is, but don't forget they have to be extremely good to make it. We are a top 8 team in Europe, and by a distance the best team in England. Any talent must be good enough to break into such a team. When Iheanacho made it we weren't quite a good as we are today, by the way. And with all due respect, there is a difference playing for Girona or Stuttgart (both mid teams in their respective leagues) and to be playing for the Centurions. If Maffeo becomes good enough I am sure we will get him back. Until then maybe we should just accept that he is just not quite good enough for us.

Not everyone.
This is all about career progression. We have helped develop an outstanding player who has proven himself good enough to play in the top division in Spain and now goes on to test himself in the Bundesliga. He also knows that if he continues to apply himself in the next few years, there is every chance he will make the return journey.

They played for something like 70 minutes combined. If this really your benchmark?
And started and handful of cup games. Not bad at 17 eh. Considerably better than the ‘class of 92’ had managed at that age and they didn’t have bad careers all told.
If you want to make flippant remarks then I suggest you find somebody on your level to engage with. I'll not waste any more of my time on you.

It means he wasn’t ready at the time and Madrid were entirely correct to sell him and use their buy back. Same as they did for Morata.There weren’t any top Spanish clubs in for Carvajal when he left Real Madrid for the Bundesliga. Does that mean Carvajal is only half decent?
Korkut the coach of Stuttgart played 4 years in Spain and made his first coaching steps in Spain, too.
There is some young players in that Stuttgart team that had a very good development in the recent year, too. Like Benjamin Pavard who made it into the French nationalteam. They have a base out of experienced players like Zieler, Gomez, Badstuber (who might not stay as he wants to play CL again - he has been injury free now for the last two seasons after his ACLs and wants to get his career now going again) and others.

The academy is there to find the gems of the future and as you say give kids the best possible chance of a career,just because they come through doesn't mean they are good enough for our first team where to get into you have to be an exceptional talent,i think some people have a romantic view of how it works not to mention that these kids have parents and agents who steer them in another directionNot everyone.

The Academy have just earned €10m for the Club. How's that not a huge success? How can anyone label it as 'useless'?
+1. So many 'scouts' on here seriously thinking they can do better than City's coaching staff... If a player is being sold, it means he's of no use to the team, full stop.Hmmmm. Who to trust. You or Pep?
