Pablo Maffeo

Disappointing from the perspective he's a talent and it would have been great to see another H/G player in our squad.

However....you have to trust our management, this season has proved that beyond any doubt.

On a side note,do Stuttgart have any players that we may be interested in? @Maldeika ?

The academy is there to find the gems of the future and as you say give kids the best possible chance of a career, just because they come through doesn't mean they are good enough for our first team where to get into you have to be an exceptional talent,i think some people have a romantic view of how it works not to mention that these kids have parents and agents who steer them in another direction

Good points. Think it's partly down to some people demanding immediate gratification and not being prepared to wait. Could also be driven by the constant barbs from outside about the club failing to produce first-team talent. Maffeo, Angelino, and Manu Garcia are extremely talented footballers who are likely going to enjoy very long and prosperous careers in the game. I could only be happier for them if they returned at some point and played for the first eleven again.

Pavard is a good young CB who also serves as Sidibe's backup in RB position for France.

Let's be blunt: don't the objections to business like this all come down to not wanting to deal with yet another rag media round of "See? They don't play their youth, they sell them on. Nothing like the class of 92, are they?"

They can get to fuck.

The comments about it being ludicrously difficult to break into a side with our quality and resources is spot on. And we retain an option to buy him back, yes? Meanwhile he has a chance to be a big part of a club in a big league, and if he turns out a superstar, we still have our fingers in.

Seems to me it's a win/win for City and the player barring catastrophic injury to all our full backs at once. Would you want to live your professional life as an insurance policy? I wouldn't.

. So many 'scouts' on here that seriously think they can do better than City's coaching staff...
I guess we do have people blaming these same scouts for selling Marcos Lopes and we have people here who want him back.
Whether or not he becomes a top player remains to be seen.
Guess these buy back clause will have specific trigger period maybe 2/3 years,we will see then what is the situation.
As it stand even with BB clause,I think he is done with ManCity forever even if he becomes a good player bcoz club will always look to buy someone than giving him a go

I'd agree, but the thing is, which young lad is going to come through and be performing to the same level as seasoned professionals, not many, if any, especially with our squad quality, depth and continued recruitment.

Don't get me wrong, we have to have a strong squad to compete, but some young lads do need to be blooded, to see if they WILL become top players with us, like we have done with Foden, Diaz and to some extent Nmecha. Maffeo appears to have shown he had the quality to perform against elite players, so there were high hopes for him, compared to some who still haven't even come up against a first team.

Shame he's gone and would have liked to have seen him given a chance, but again, if he did play and didn't come up to the fan expectation, the same who are complaining he's gone, would complain why hes playing.

You're right, not many, if any young lads are going to be at the required standard straight away but that's the level this team is at now, and thats the level you need to be if you want to play for this football club.

We want to be, and remain the very best team around, that doesn't happen by weakening your squad to accommodate players that might one day be good enough. This is why our approach to loaning out players and selling them on with a buyback option is perfect for us, it takes away all the risk involved in playing youngsters with potential that may or may not ever be realised and for a small fee let's somebody else do the risky development phase enabling them to come back as the finished product. It's only because this method is still in its infancy and we're yet to see the full cycle happen that the inpatient amongst us take issue with this kind of deal. Lets remember he will be playing for Stuttgart next season not Bayern Munich and theres a reason for that. Would love to see him do well and come back but if not it only proves the correct decision was made in selling him.

The right move for player and club at the present time.

He wouldn't get much game time here ahead of Walker and Danilo and I'm sure we'll have inserted a buy back and can take up that option if he continues to progress.
Thats how I see it. A good league for him to continue his development in.

This.

The part where people somehow think an untested 21 year old is a better option than Danilo or Walker is Bizarre! Perspective here,He's nowhere near good enough yet and he's no where near the level of Danilo or Walker yet by some distance. So this thinking he'd just slot into Danilos spot in the squad doesn't make any sense.
