Pablo Zabaleta as a DM?

Is it just me, or does anyone else think Pablo would do a cracking job as a defence oriented midfielder? He has everything required for that position in my opinion, and I wonder if he have ever been played in that position.

Equally good tackler as De Jong, if not better, and a far far better passer.

What do you say?

If not, what speaks against him in that particular position?

He's a hero by the way, may he stay forever.

A DM must be really able to provide cover for the back 4.
Team Captain Argentina Zab I observed has the football nous to snuff out threats in the BOX against our opponents who joined in the attack! Thats an important and critical requirement.

Yes its good to break up plays in the midfield with 2 legged lunges hard nose tackles (which is passe given the crackdown ever since VK did).
But our opponents have been able to circumvent this by treating our 'best defensive holding midfielder' as a human pylon. No?

I'd play him there over Mr. 'Can't be arsed' De Jong.
This, for me Zab is a better footballer than de Jong! For a top teams like City that have much of the ball don't really need that reckless 'Can't be arsed' de Jong! I think the days of the reckless midfielder is gone unless you are a in a poor mid-table team. top teams need that player to have some ability other than clamping!

Zab is either right back or to be just used as a utility player. He is a top player and club member but not a regular DM.
To improve our DM position we need somebody in the mould of Busquets ( Barcelona ) or Alonso ( Madrid ) who can break up play and then quickly link up with the attacking midfielders and forwards. At the present time it is all too sluggish.
