Pakistan bans Facebook over 'Draw Muhammad Day'

Oh dear, this will cause some issues. I do hear the argument a lot about people drawing some pretty crude images of Jesus (Southpark have done quite a few, as have Private Eye), and therefore why can't you draw an image of Muhammad without incurring the wrath of a helluva lot of Muslims. Now I'm not an expert on Islam, but I do believe that the religion bans any images of Muhammad, whereas the Christian churches are more than happy with images of Jesus to be plastered everywhere (and make a lot of money out of images of Jesus along the way). Also, and I may be corrected on this one, it's not Muslims who are guilty of drawing crude images of Jesus, it's the western media. Therefore should we not just respect the wishes of the Islamic faith and not produce images of Muhammad? I am not religious in any way, but it appears to me that anyone who produces an image of Muhammad is just trying to make mischief (pretty serious mischief at that).

Now, all this is just my opinion, therefore I'm happy with you to pour abuse on my opinion, but don't make it personal!

Is the basic argument here that nothing can/should be done which might offend people? Or is it just religion we should be shielded, and if so, why?

I like it.

Religion - what a load of tosh and a complete waste of time! Talk about brainwashed - and they (religious people in general) consider themselves peaceful!

BUt....each to their own and all that!

And, once again, we arrive at a crossroad in which people forget what religion our club owners are.

We've not crossed the line, yet(although a newbie's post flirted with it), so I'll be interested to see who really gives a fig about 'respect' and 'offending'.

Oh come on. If no one's ever seen him, then any drawing won't look like him will it? And even if it does, no one will know.

It's the same as trade. We are as a fanbase, trading with the owner. Just like 100 of yrs ago we bought spices. Just like we buy kebabs. It's called trade. We can still maintain our own culture and continue to trade.

I have never associated religion with a Donner, but I like you thought process!

No sense of humour at all those Muslim folk.

For it to be Humour doesn't everyone have to see the funny side?.......

Not really. The current plight of dear Neighbours is a great source of amusement to many people in this country.Don't think it's went down too well in parts of London and Singapore though........

Your 'thought process' is too abstract to fit the purposes you want it to achieve here.

What you may be referring to is a 'trade off' as opposed to 'trade'. 'Trade' alludes to giving something back of equal worth or 'satisfied' worth. 'Trade off' is accepting or what is going to happen with punters or as 'punters', ignoring the fact that someone has to 'grin and bear' the bullsh*t in order to deal with you.

Is that what this thread is, then??

Two different things, entirely, I assure you.
