Paris 2024 Olympics Thread - 11th August (pg 430)

I have absolutely zero boxing expertise, experience or knowledge but I can confidently say that the decision to give that Polish lass the win was criminal. She was getting absolutely peppered in that final round!
I didn't see it, but judging in boxing has been corrupt for decades. The IOC actually kicked the IBA out of the sport and I remember all sorts of claims of dodginess going around in Rio, with rumours that the sport might disappear from the Olympics altogether.

With a point deducted as well, mental decision.
The judges are shocking for the Olympic boxing one had Eccles winning every round and another had her losing every round, it's almost like they are watching different fights.

Interesting, didn't know that, IOC's decision was upheld by CAS as well I see. The IBA are apparently led by a Russian with ties to Putin so perhaps rampant corruption is to be expected!

It would be better if it was all live, I’ve subscribed to Discovery and it’s fucking brilliant, can skip between whatever I want.
BBC coverage is shite compared to it. If bbc did similar to Discovery then I’m sure more would be interested.
On BBC iPlayer you can get different sports rather like Discovery+ though. When I sit down to watch I keep flicking between them all. It's great fun and I probably miss 1/4 of all the sports....... *lol* just kidding. It is fun though being able to flick through. The only ones I won't watch are the boxing and judo. Plus I won't be watching breakdancing that's not a sport.

In the US, the closest to that is the NBC paid subscription of Peacock, which shows everything.

While many can't be bothered to pay for that, those of us who already are subscribed due to their must-have EPL package to get all the matches during the upcoming season, we're already on board. Once you have Peacock, you get everything they offer, and the Olympics come along with it. It's mostly $60 a year, but back in June they ran a special for $20 for the year (quite the bargain).

Right now, on most (cable/streaming) channel lineup plans TV options:
  • (free) NBC is showing Women's Mountain Bike after some swimming trials just concluded.
  • USA is showing Women's Team Archery Quarters
  • CNBC is showing Women's Street Skateboarding Prelims
  • E! is showing Women's (indoor) Volleyball: Italy vs. Dominican Republic
On Peacock, I'm watching tennis matches on 2 TVs, one a 4 match multistream, the other one waiting for Nadal to start in singles. But I could watch any sport I want to (live and replays) with Peacock.

The late night surfing there was quite interesting too!
