No, I didn't! The point I was making is that all the attention beforehand was focused on PSG's individuals to the point where anyone but Pep would have been paralysed with fear at the brilliance of their attacking players. Not Pep! Pep stuffed his oft quoted message that he doesn't coach tackling right down the throats of those who misunderstood it so wilfully four years ago and in defence we never looked like conceding a penalty as our lads simply formed a human wall to force Neymar and co wide or back or to give the ball away. Stones and Dias were brilliant (without needing to make a single tackle in our area!), Zinchenko was superb and Kyle Walker showed that there are aspects to his game which make him truly a remarkable player. Ferna smiled his way through an excellent display until di Maria found the only way to wipe the smile off his face, at least temporarily. And we could go on, and that's my point - when we look at the two games City were by far the better team and when we look for the most impressive players not one (at least in my opinion) wold be from PSG. I singled out Phil because of his youth, which still blinds most of the pundits to what he has achieved already in comparison to other greats at the same age, and KdB, through whom so much flowed because they seem the nearest comparisons to Neymar and di Maria. There is no way that last night I was going to forget Rihad Mahrez, so if you wish I'll raise a glass to him now and agree willingly that he wrote himself into City legend. As did the whole team.I think you forgot the man who scored 3 goals!
As for PSG they were well beaten. No other team has managed to outplay them to the point where they started kicking the opposition in preference to the ball and I'm afraid we've seen that "Poch" isn't the manager to cure them of this kind of disintegration: who can forget the unseemly collapse of his Spurs side in the face of Leicester's determination and Chelsea's refusal to let Spurs win? Or their craven surrender to United when leading 1-0 in the FA cup semi final? "Poch" appears to become part of the problem and join in the excuse making. Contrast with Pep ...
